Well, to use film terminology, that’s a wrap – for now, anyway! David Gilmour’s fourteen nights in three European cities – Brighton, Rome and London – have just come to a triumphant conclusion, with audiences truly thrilled by the sonic and visual feast served up by David and his band. The show has matured well over the month since the first Brighton shows, which were a great tour opener for the lucky 1,500 at each of the two performances there, with the subsequent Rome open air concerts being truly special, and then the Royal Albert Hall gigs in London which will live long in everyone’s memories. Next for David and the gang is an appearance on the BBC TV series, Later…With Jools Holland (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00248kd). We hear possibly that David will be on this week’s show, although looking on the BBC website at the episode guide (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00248kd), it doesn’t include his name amongst the guests performing. From pictures that Polly Samson and others have shared on their social media, they have already filmed their song selection, it seems at Alexandra Palace in London. Then, the US dates start, with three locations selected, taking in the West and East coasts – the newly opened and quite high tech Intuit Dome in LA on October 25th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-25th-intuit-dome-inglewood-los-angeles-c.html), the legendary Hollywood Bowl on October 29th – 31st (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-29th-hollywood-bowl-hollywood-los-angeles-c.html), and concluding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on November 4th – 6th and 9th – 10th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/november-4th-madison-square-garden-new-york-city-n.html). Should all be superb shows, and limited tickets are still available if you are quick. We’ve been so grateful for all the reviews, comments and pictures submitted for the shows that have taken place, and are working through the final ones to get them on the site too. Thanks to Kevan Porter for this picture from last night’s show – his review and many more great shots are on the relevant show page in the David Gilmour 2024 section (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/index.php). People love reading others’ thoughts on the shows, whether or not they were fortunate enough to have attended themselves, and seeing pictures taken from all different aspects of the venues. If you haven’t yet submitted something and still want to – or are going to any of the US shows and want to share with the Floyd community – do please get in touch at the normal email address of Matt@Brain-Damage.co.uk. Thank you, everyone!

Gilmour and his band will be playing at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday 29th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-29th-hollywood-bowl-hollywood-los-angeles-c.html) and Wednesday 30th October (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-30th-hollywood-bowl-hollywood-los-angeles-c.html), before heading up to New York City, New York, for a brace of shows at Madison Square Garden, in Manhattan, on Monday 4th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/november-4th-madison-square-garden-new-york-city-n.html) and Tuesday 5th November (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/november-5th-madison-square-garden-new-york-city-n.html). That last date – 5th November, is not just National Doughnut Day in America, but also the day of the US election, where the next president will be voted on and elected. For the 2024 dates, these will be the ONLY North American cities, and join the dates in London, England, and Rome, Italy on the schedule. You can sign up to the official David Gilmour newsletter (http://davidgilmour.com/uspresale) to get exclusive ticket pre-sale access. The pre-sale will launch Wednesday, May 15th, 10am local. The venue itself is running a presale (we think through Ticketmaster) on Thursday, May 16th, at 10am local time, with a password of SOCIAL. Tickets will then go on general sale at 10am local on Friday, May 17th from this link at Ticketmaster (https://www.ticketmaster.com/david-gilmour-tickets/artist/769001). Pink Floyd 1973 live recordings on streaming services
Over the last couple of years, and in what could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, Pink Floyd have quietly released a number of 1973 live recordings on the various streaming services, such as Spotify (https://www.spotify.com), Apple Music (https://music.apple.com), YouTube Music (https://music.youtube.com), Amazon Music (https://music.amazon.co.uk) and also the band’s official YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/pinkfloyd). The quality is rather variable – by the very nature of the unofficial, audience recordings – but the shows give a fascinating look at the concerts performed at the time of release of The Dark Side Of The Moon. The 1973 recordings released are listed with dates and venues as per the original bootlegs, and show as: – March 6th: Kiel Opera House, St Louis
– March 7th: Chicago International Amphitheatre
– March 8th: University of Cincinnati
– March 10th: Kent State University
– March 11th: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto
– March 14th: Boston Music Hall
– March 17th: Radio City Music Hall, New York
– May 18th: Earls Court, London
– May 19th: Earls Court, London
– June 17th: Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs
– June 18th: Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City
– June 20th: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia
– June 28th: Sportatorium Hollywood Florida
– October 12th: Olympiahalle Munich
– October 13th: Vienna Stadthalle
– November 4th: Rainbow Theatre (Early Show)
– November 4th: Rainbow Theatre (Late Show) As with the batches released the last couple of years focused on 1971 and 1972, these are not expected to be around for long, and won’t be released physically on CD or LP, so make the most of them over the holiday and new year period before they disappear! Our thanks to those who emailed to let us know about these.
Happy Christmas; Abbey Road film and Floyd live recordings released
Well, it’s that time of year when would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for your support and kindness – the site is done purely for you, and as the current version of the site alone approaches 100 million visitors (with the previous version of the site reaching 21 million), we look forward to continuing to bring you news and information from the Floydian world! Whatever your plans for Christmas, the Holidays, and the New Year we hope you have a peaceful, happy and healthy time, and here’s to 2023! Roger Waters will be touring again with his striking This Is Not A Drill, this time in Europe, and fingers are crossed that Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets head out on the road again after such a superb 2022 tour. There’s also the small matter of the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon, of which there’s already been a couple of books (one of which is billed as an official publication) announced. In the meantime, there’s a couple of bits of interest which should help you tick away the moments that make up what would otherwise be a dull day! First, for those with access to the Disney+ streaming service, there’s a new documentary by Mary McCartney called If These Walls Could Sing. This is an absolutely fascinating look at London’s EMI Studios (as they used to be known) in Abbey Road. As befitting a place which has had so many top musicians through its hallowed doors, the documentary features new interviews with many of them, and from a Pink Floyd perspective, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters all talk about their experiences there. A solid and absorbing look at the building and the work undertaken there. The second thing, which will probably take up a lot more of your time, is this. As could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, the band have quietly released a number of 1972 recordings on the various streaming services, and also the band’s official YouTube channel. The quality is rather variable – and some of the dates/venues aren’t necessarily 100% correct – but the shows give a fascinating insight into the development of The Dark Side Of The Moon. The earliest recordings are amongst the first full public performances of the initial version of the album, which underwent many dramatic changes as they refined aspects on the road before heading into the recording studio where songs changed heavily again, to what we all now know and love. The 1972 recordings released are listed with dates and venues as per the original bootlegs, and show as: Southampton Guildhall, UK, 23 January; Carnegie Hall, New York, 5 February (actually 2 May); Rainbow Theatre, London 17, 18, 19, 20 February; Taiikukan, Tokyo, Japan, 3 March (probably 6 March); Osaka Festival Hall, Japan, 8 March; Nakajima Sports Centre, Sapporo, Japan, 13 March; Chicago Auditorium Theatre, USA, 28 April; Deutschlandhalle, Berlin, Germany, 18 May; Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, 22 September; Empire Pool, Wembley, London, 21 October; Ernst-Merck Halle, Hamburg, Germany, 12 November; Palais des Sports, Poitiers, France 29 November; Palais des Sports de LâIle de la Jatte, Saint Ouen, France, 1 December; Vorst Nationaal, Brussels, Belgium, 5 December; Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland 9 December; “Alternative Tracks 1972”. As with the batch released last year focused on 1971, these are not expected to be around for long, so make the most of them over the holiday and new year period before they disappear! Our thanks to those who emailed to let us know about these.
