Our thanks to the enigmatically named That Lady, who has been in touch with her contribution to our gallery of Floyd inspired artworks. She told us: “I am still a hard-core fan and still return to Pink Floyd for inspiration! This piece was born after witnessing the full 2024 eclipse.” The following is titled, appropriately, Two Lost Souls, and for those who need a hint as to the Floyd tie-up, the song Wish You Were Here has the lyric about the lost souls swimming in a fish bowl…the eclipse itself standing in for the bowl. It’s a lovely image, and we thank her for allowing us to share it with the Floyd community worldwide!

Brainstorms: A Great Gig in the Sky featuring the music of Pink Floyd
Just announced: June 7th sees the launch of Brainstorms: A Great Gig in the Sky, presented by the UKâs largest immersive art experience Frameless. A complete takeover of the iconic, 30,000 square-feet venue in the heart of Marble Arch, London, this new show blends music and art with the latest neuroscience and technology, in an exploration of how our minds respond to music. The fascinating sounding immersive experience, running on Friday and Saturday evenings in June 2024 for over 18s only, comes from Brainstorms, a joint venture between San Francisco-based creative studio Pollen Music Group and Richard Wright Music Limited. It brings to life the results of the Brainstorms research project that took place last autumn. Driven by a mutual admiration for the beautiful and haunting simplicity of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wrightâs songwriting, the Brainstorms team has themed the experience around the concept behind the iconic Pink Floyd track The Great Gig in the Sky. Visitors will travel through the four main Frameless galleries which each feature stunning sky-themed creative visualisations of the human brain’s response to music, from mesmerising cloud formations and mystical auroras to starling murmurations and an eclipse. The whole experience has been designed to communicate how people respond to music, while enhancing the listening experience by enveloping individuals inside the songs like never before. Gala Wright, curator and Artistic director at Brainstorms and daughter of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, says, “The visual representation of brain data provides an accessible and intuitive way to see how a piece of music can be a deeply personal yet also powerfully shared experience. Questioning how this is true for my father’s compositions is a key motivation for me bringing this concept to life with Pollen. The added benefit of bringing awareness to his musicality through the Brainstorms project serves to augment his legacy.” To create the visuals for the centrepiece experience, 125 individuals had their brain activity recorded while listening in unparalleled clarity and depth through immersive sound Dolby Atmos to 1973 Pink Floyd classic, âThe Great Gig in the Skyâ from the highly celebrated album âThe Dark Side of the Moonâ. The instrumental track, which was the creation of Richard Wright, features Clare Torryâs voice as an instrument in place of lyrics so was deemed a perfect piece for the largest data collection of its kind. The EEG readings of brain activity, which will be showcased within the experience, were captured at Dolby by the neuroscience experts within the Pollen Music Group team and reflect the participantâs excitement, interest, relaxation and stress felt whilst listening to the track. A strictly limited number of VIP places will be available to book a unique 15-minute EEG brain capture experience, powered by technology provided by AMD and Emotiv, where they will feel more from the music than ever before as they go on an intense and emotional journey as they listen to five minutes of The Dark Side of the Moon in immersive sound Dolby Atmos via headphones. Participants will then be able to see their brain activity visualised into stunning large-scale cloud formations, projected into Frameless’ re-imagined ‘Cloud’ Gallery. Each participant will also receive a personalised memento based on their individual brain’s reaction to the piece. Tickets to Brainstorms: A Great Gig in the Sky are priced from £30 and have gone on sale this morning. To buy tickets or to find out more visit frameless.com/brainstorms (https://frameless.com/brainstorms/).
Hipgnosis Exhibition opens in Germany
A recently opened exhibition of Hipgnosis pictures and artwork in Germany has been attracting a lot of interest from visitors, along with local media. Co-curator Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell was in touch with us, to provide some more detail on this for you all. Po said: “The Hipgnosis Exhibition ‘Breathe’ opened on Sunday 21st January to an enthusiastic crowd of 400 people. The exhibition runs over 3 floors of this wonderful gallery and contains 150 Hipgnosis pictures, curated by myself and John Colton of the Browse Gallery, Berlin. There has been great press and TV coverage. “The initial rooms celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and all the artwork that has been designed by Hipgnosis or Storm Studios over the past fifty years related to that celebrated album. The Ludwig Schloss Gallery is in Oberhausen, 30 minutes by car from the centre of Dusseldorf. Germany has always been a huge admirer of Pink Floyd, and Hipgnosis, and this marks the sixth exhibition held over the last five years in that country, with many thanks to the continued support from Pink Floyd.” For more information on the gallery, and the exhibition – which runs until May 2024 – please visit Ludwiggalerie.de (https://www.ludwiggalerie.de/en/exhibition/current-exhibitions/). Our thanks to Po for the update, as well!
Richard Wright ‘Wet Dream’ reissue with Steven Wilson remix release details
Some great news has been announced this afternoon, following some online rumours and speculation – Richard Wrightâs debut solo album, Wet Dream, is to be reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1978 – this time in deep blue transparent marbled vinyl. It will also be available on streaming platforms for the first time ever including a new Dolby Atmos mix, on CD and on blu-ray which includes a 5.1 mix and never before released personal images and videos from around this period of his life. To be released on July 28th – the date that would have been his 80th birthday – it will initially be made available on CD and all streaming platforms, with the vinyl and blu-ray editions of the record being released on September 29th. Remixed by Steven Wilson, this reissue comes with brand new artwork that was commissioned and art-directed by Gala and Jamie Wright, Richard’s children and managers of his estate. As per the original release, the bi-fold sleeve folds out to extend the image and features the same vibrant colour palette. This time, the unidentified person in bright red shorts is swimming within deep blue waters of the sea rather than a pool and the image expands out to reveal a boat slightly out of their reach, referencing the nautical theme of the record. The image was taken by Costas Spathis, a photographer living and working in Greece, which is where the album was written and the graphic design is by Carl Glover. The original artwork was designed by Storm Thorgerson and photographed by Audrey Powell for Hipgnosis and features in the vinyl booklet. Upon rediscovering this record, it becomes hugely apparent how much of Richard’s DNA runs through Pink Floyd. His distinct rhythm patterns, song structure and style of play exudes throughout, shining a light on his unique talent and influence on modern music. When originally released, post Pink Floyd’s Animals (1977) and shortly before 1979’s The Wall, Wet Dream was largely under-appreciated. Steven Wilson’s mix is designed to give new life to the record demonstrating Wright’s brilliance. Richard wrote and produced the whole album himself and it was one of only three albums he released outside of Pink Floyd, the others being Broken China, from 1996, and Identity, released in 1983 under the guise of Zee, a duet with Dave Harris from Fashion. The Blu-ray edition of Wet Dream includes the Dolby Atmos mIx, a 5.1 surround mix (DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24), the new stereo mix in Hi-Res Audio (96/24), and exclusive personal videos along with a photo gallery. It’s housed in a book format with collectable postcards and an 8-page booklet. Here’s a first taste of the album: ORDERING INFORMATION:

Aubrey Powell: Through the Prism – talk & book signing
Apologies for the lack of advance notice, but we’ve just found out this morning, that this evening – Thursday, May 19th – at 6:30pm, Hipgnosis co-founder, creative designer, photographer and filmmaker Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell talks about his recently published book Through the Prism, published by Thames & Hudson, in the Cafe of The Photographer’s Gallery in London (https://thephotographersgallery.org.uk/whats-on/aubrey-powell-through-prism-talk-book-signing) which is close to Oxford Circus tube station. The event is free to attend. In the talk, Powell will share intriguing stories of creative endeavour, volatile relationships, excessive lifestyles and bizarre events from the world of rock in conversation with author and music journalist Mark Blake. The gallery preview the event by saying: “Hipgnosis transformed album art with their designs for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Paul McCartney and Wings and so many more. Brutally honest, entertaining and insightful, Po tells the incredible stories of creative endeavour, volatile alliances, high-risk/high-altitude photoshoots and downright bizarre events from the halcyon days of rockânâroll. From his unique insider perspective, Po sets many records straight, bringing revelatory new details to legendary tales, including the genesis of The Dark Side Of The Moon, Houses Of The Holy, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, and Peter Gabrielâs trio âCarâ / âScratchâ / âMeltâ, each evidenced with photographs, documents, artefacts and artworks from Poâs own archive. “Mark Blake’s work has been published in Mojo, The Times, Rolling Stone and Classic Rock. His books include the best-selling âPigs Might Fly: The Inside Story Of Pink Floydâ and âBring It On Homeâ, a critically-acclaimed biography of Led Zeppelinâs notorious manager, Peter Grant.” For more information about the event, and getting to the gallery, please visit ThePhotographersGallery.org.uk (https://thephotographersgallery.org.uk/whats-on/aubrey-powell-through-prism-talk-book-signing).
