Over the last couple of years, and in what could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, Pink Floyd have quietly released a number of 1973 live recordings on the various streaming services, such as Spotify (https://www.spotify.com), Apple Music (https://music.apple.com), YouTube Music (https://music.youtube.com), Amazon Music (https://music.amazon.co.uk) and also the band’s official YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/pinkfloyd). The quality is rather variable – by the very nature of the unofficial, audience recordings – but the shows give a fascinating look at the concerts performed at the time of release of The Dark Side Of The Moon. Roger Waters will be touring again with his striking This Is Not A Drill, this time in Europe, and fingers are crossed that Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets head out on the road again after such a superb 2022 tour. There’s also the small matter of the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon, of which there’s already been a couple of books (one of which is billed as an official publication) announced. In the meantime, there’s a couple of bits of interest which should help you tick away the moments that make up what would otherwise be a dull day! First, for those with access to the Disney+ streaming service, there’s a new documentary by Mary McCartney called If These Walls Could Sing. This is an absolutely fascinating look at London’s EMI Studios (as they used to be known) in Abbey Road. As befitting a place which has had so many top musicians through its hallowed doors, the documentary features new interviews with many of them, and from a Pink Floyd perspective, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters all talk about their experiences there. A solid and absorbing look at the building and the work undertaken there. The second thing, which will probably take up a lot more of your time, is this. As could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, the band have quietly released a number of 1972 recordings on the various streaming services, and also the band’s official YouTube channel. With uncertainty over surges of Coronavirus cases, the January/February 2022 tour dates for Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets in the US and Canada were postponed. Rearranging existing tour dates (particularly at the moment with the heavily increased demand from all artists affected) must be incredibly difficult, as the available venues must be the right size for the act, and in a vaguely logical geographical location so bands and crews aren’t zig-zagging their way across a country in an unsustainable way. However, after what we suspect has been a huge amount of work behind the scenes, the revised US and Canadian tour has now been announced. The difficulties in sorting a revised schedule are evident in that, sadly, six gigs have had to be cancelled. These are: Cincinnati which was originally on February 1st, St Louis on February 8th, Memphis on February 9th, Kansas on February 10th, Sacramento on February 23rd and Spokane on February 27th. For all of you holding tickets for these shows, the point of sale should be in touch with a refund. The better news is that these six cancelled gigs, have been replaced by eight new shows (in different locations). There are also three of the existing shows that have moved venues, within the same cities – Washington DC, Phoenix AZ, and Vancouver BC. For rescheduled shows that will be taking place at the same venue, all previously purchased tickets will be valid for the new date. For all shows being moved to new venues, customers will be automatically refunded for their purchase and offered an exclusive presale opportunity for the new venue and date. Further information will be sent directly to the original ticket holders by email shortly, and for any additional ticketing inquiries, fans should reach out to their point of purchase. Further to our recent news that Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets had revealed more dates for their 2022 Echoes Tour, taking in twenty six new dates in the US and Canada, for those who are intending to go, a reminder that ALL the shows are NOW ON SALE! Tickets for the newly announced shows, detailed below, went on sale through the links given in two waves. Broadly speaking the first half of the tour went on sale last Friday (October 29th), with the exception of the Philadelphia date, and the Cincinnati date, which have both now gone on sale today (Friday, November 5th), along with the rest of the dates. We suspect tickets will sell quickly, as they are playing a number of relatively small, and more intimate, venues than some artists would tend to go for, with some of the venues being particularly historic and beautiful!
