Happy birthday, Gerald Scarfe!

Gerald Scarfe (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/gerald-scarfe-interviews/november-2005-with-brain-damage.html) today as he celebrates his birthday. Gerald, of course, is a graphic artist with a long history with the Floyd, from the 1974 tour programme caricature, through to his most famous work on The Wall, and beyond that, working with Roger Waters on his Pros and Cons project. Many happy returns to Gerald on this very special day from all of us here at Brain Damage. The album imagery, stage performances and film were created in close collaboration with Gerald Scarfe, and his massive archive includes original storyboards, animation cells, concept drawings, models and other three-dimensional material together with photographs of the creation and staging of the live performances and the filming of The Wall. He also reveals the process of cartooning – and the ways that certain subjects have reacted to his visions of them. Happy birthday, Nick Mason!

Passion for Speed (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/books/passion-for-speed-nick-mason-and-mark-hales-2.html), is worth checking out, as is the DVD of the same name (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/dvds-and-videos/passion-for-speed-ferrari-enzo-dvd-nick-mason-and-mark-2.html) focusing on his Ferrari Enzo car (with Nick heavily involved). Of course, for those who haven’t read it, Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/books/inside-out-2011-edition-updated-paperback-nick-mason-2.html) is an absolute essential read, and available in a variety of editions: hardback, softback (paperback) and an audiobook, which is read by Nick himself… Nick has contributed to a number of magazines on motoring issues over the years (including a fascinating monthly column in Octane Magazine), and also became president of the Guild of Motoring Writers. He is a trustee of the Beaulieu National Motor Museum, and a life member and Guardian of the BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club). He has been involved in motor racing since the early 1970s and has entered Le Mans five times. Musically, of course, the big news recently was the launch of his new band, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets. The four initial, small gigs in May 2018 held in London lead to a very successful and critically acclaimed European tour in September. Last year, of course, the tour continued with dates in the US, Canada, and more dates in the UK and Europe. 2020 sees more UK and European shows, and hopefully the release of the London Roundhouse concert filmed last year! This Is Not A Drill – here is the news that many of you have been waiting for. This afternoon, the dates and venues of the 2020 Roger Waters US/Canadian tour have been revealed. From recent interviews, Roger has said that it is a brand new production (with the aforementioned …Not A Drill tagline), with the show being presented in the round, and we suspect, with a new setlist. Below is a recent, hour and a half interview with Roger Waters, posted online by The Global Consortium for Sustainable Peace. The fascinating, wide-ranging chat conducted by Professor John Haas of Cerritos College, covers a wide range of subjects as you may expect, with Roger sharing his views on things such as nature, human rights, BDS, and music, including touring. He talks about his concert plans for this year – dates in the US, Canada and Mexico – and answers questions about playing at the border wall.
