New Rock Promotion book explores work for Pink Floyd et al

To be published on April 1st, 2025, is a new book from Jawbone – Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay and the art of Rock Promotion, from Paul Rappaport. ‘Rap’, as he is often referred to, is a legend of music promotion. He spent thirty-three years at Columbia Records, where he became their senior vice-president of rock promotion, and was instrumental in so many careers. It promises an insider’s account of the golden age of rock, sharing never-before-told tales of his adventures with some of music’s most colourful characters, including The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, and many more. “I wrote this book to capture the magical times,” explained Rappaport, “so that people wouldn’t forget but also to show the many behind-the-scenes folks whose lives were so colourful they brought a warmth and

David Gilmour: Dark and Velvet Nights video, and box set info

The third single from David Gilmour’s upcoming album, Luck and Strange, has now been released and you can view the video for Dark and Velvet Nights below. There’s also been a change to the deluxe box set offerings, with a very limited (and possibly already sold out) edition of the CD/Blu-ray and LP/Blu-ray deluxe sets coming with a print, containing one of Anton Corbijn’s great portraits of David. The non-print edition of the deluxe sets has seen a price reduction, which if you have pre-ordered through Amazon, should be reflected in the final amount you are charged when the album is released. New book: Everything Under the Sun: The Complete Guide to Pink Floyd

To be published at the end of next month, on August 29th 2024, is a new book, written by Mike Cormack, from The History Press publishers. Everything Under the Sun: The Complete Guide to Pink Floyd promises a comprehensive look at the band. The publishers told us that “Everything Under the Sun will be a high-level, fully sourced and footnoted analysis of the music of Pink Floyd (akin to Revolution in the Head by Ian MacDonald about The Beatles), and the first serious survey of the group’s work and achievements. As such, it will also be a cultural history of the UK, seen through the prism of the band”. They continued: “While there is a plethora of books about Pink Floyd and by Pink Floyd former members, none are truly comprehensive or do what this book seeks to do. Some give bald introductions to the songs with analysis, others give stories and anecdotes, and potted histories. But Everything Under the Sun will be the definitive book. In addition to a song-by-song analysis, it will include exclusive band interviews, a full chronology and gig guide, and a full bootleg guide. It will be the go-to book for any Pink Floyd fan”. It certainly sounds an interesting proposition, and as I’m regularly consulting numerous sources for Floyd information, if this book can reduce what I need to reach for on a daily basis that’s definitely welcomed!
