In a move that isn’t overly unexpected with the ongoing global situation with COVID-19, the already rescheduled three evenings presenting A Theatre for Dreamers – An Evening of Words and Music with Polly Samson and David Gilmour in Manchester, Birmingham and London (on June 25th, 26th and 28th), have now sadly been cancelled. They ask that ticket holders do NOT contact the box offices and wait to be contacted by their respective venue’s box office team, who will each be processing the refunds. For full details on refunds (including Terms and Conditions), particularly with regard to those who already received their book signed by Polly and photo signed by Polly and David, or who were due to pick these up from the venue on the evening of the show they had tickets for, please click here (https://www.pollysamson.com/pdfs/Cancellation_Terms_and_Conditions.pdf).
Our very best wishes, and many happy returns, to David Gilmour who is celebrating his 75th birthday today (March 6th)! Born and raised in Cambridge, David became involved with various bands in the area, principally Jokers Wild who were a popular draw when they played, before joining Pink Floyd in 1968. More recent years have seen David concentrating on his solo career, and helping out chums on their musical projects on an ad hoc basis. In 2019, some 120+ of David’s guitars were auctioned, raising $21.5 million (including some record-breaking amounts for individual instruments) which went to the environmental charity ClientEarth (https://clientearth.org). He also appeared as a guest performer at the Richard Thompson 70th Birthday Concert (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/david-gilmour-guest-appearance-at-richard-thompson-70th-birthday-co.html), playing Dimming Of The Day and Fat Old Sun, and joining the encore. Last year, on February 25th, shortly before all activity stopped around the world due to Coronavirus, David joined the stellar bill for the Mick Fleetwood Friends Celebrate The Music of Peter Green and The Early Years of Fleetwood Mac (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/mick-fleetwood-friends-concert-box-set-available-to-orde.html) concert at London's Palladium, which is being released as a 4LP, 2CD, Blu-ray and book box set on April 30th this year (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/mick-fleetwood-friends-concert-box-set-available-to-orde.html). The concert was in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity (https://teenagecancertrust.org). Finally, scheduled for the end of June (Covid restriction permitting, of course), David is joining his wife Polly Samson for three special evenings to mark the release of her new book, A Theatre For Dreamers, which will see David performing a few songs (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/polly-samson-and-david-gilmour-a-theatre-for-dreamers-book-and-music-e.html). Tickets for these three events, in Manchester, Birmingham, and London, are available now (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/polly-samson-and-david-gilmour-a-theatre-for-dreamers-book-and-music-e.html).It just remains for us to wish David a very happy day! In a move which should come as no surprise to anyone, it has just been announced that the 2021 UK tour of Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets has had to move due to the current pandemic affecting people the world over. The dates have all moved from April/May this year to the same period next year (2022). In the announcement, the band apologise “for any inconvenience these changes might cause; the band are desperate to perform, but have to ensure the experience is a safe one for everyone!” It makes perfect sense to postpone the shows now, giving people some notice, rather than holding on and hoping that the vaccination rollout proceeds at pace, AND that the virus recedes so that shows can take place. We would be amazed to see any shows take place for a while. Obviously, there were European dates scheduled for May – July, but at this stage, there’s no official word on what might be happening with those – or indeed, if there are any plans for shows elsewhere, a question we get frequently. We’re sure most people are aware of how moved shows work now – keep hold of your tickets as they are automatically valid for the new dates, and there’s no need to contact whoever you bought your tickets through to get new ones, or confirm attendance at the new date. Here’s the details of the revised dates: 16 April (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/nick-mason-s-sos-2022/april-16th-barbican-york-england-resched.html) Barbican, York, England
