Pink Floyd release Arnold Layne live for Record Store Day 2020

To celebrate Record Store Day 2020 (Saturday, April 18th), Pink Floyd are releasing a live recording of the band's first single, Arnold Layne. The limited-edition, one-sided Record Store Day 7 vinyl – the latest release from Pink Floyd Records (which was formed in June 2016) represents the last live performance of Pink Floyd with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright all together in 2007, and was mixed by Damon Iddins. This special performance of Arnold Layne took place at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert 'The Madcap's Last Laugh' held at London's Barbican on May 10th that year. David, Nick and Richard were augmented by Jon Carin (on keyboards and vocals) and Andy Bell from Oasis (bass guitar). After a great line-up throughout the evening, including Roger Waters in the first half, Pink Floyd took to the stage for an incredibly emotional finale. The concert was held to pay homage to Barrett, who had died a year earlier and sadly became the final performance of the Floyd to include Richard, who passed away the year after. It was also Richard's penultimate live performance. The artwork for the release features the titular Arnold in handcuffs (after having been arrested for stealing women's clothes from their washing lines). Pink Floyd Creative Director Aubrey 'Po' Powell oversaw the sleeve, newly created by long-time Floyd collaborators, photographer Rupert Truman and designer Peter Curzon, both of StormStudios. New art extends to the B-side of the single, which features an exclusive etching of handcuffs to echo the sleeve and the song's lyrics. This 7 single follows the popular RSD release of A Saucerful Of Secrets in mono in 2019, and is released via RSD participating stores on 18th April 2020 – go to RecordStoreDay.com (http://www.recordstoreday.com) for more details of who those will be. A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can't sell it online – the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 18th (and not before), in limited quantities – first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may put them for sale online (and of course, there'll also be copies on eBay inevitably…).The full list of RSD releases for 2020 is due to be revealed very shortly.

I am honoured to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician. 'Then Play On'… Here's some shots of David in action – he performed Oh Well Part Two (something which had NEVER been performed live previously in the history of Fleetwood Mac) on a Black Strat, and on a slide guitar, treated the audience to Albatross. For those who weren't able to attend the concert, there's some excellent news! David Gilmour involved with upcoming Peter Green tribute album

Peter Green Celebration concert, which takes place in just under a month’s time at London’s Palladium (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/david-gilmour-helping-mick-fleetwood-celebrate-peter-green-at-london-pall.html) (poster shown to the left), and includes David Gilmour amongst the performers that night, fellow participant Kirk Hammett has been speaking to GuitarWorld.com (https://www.guitarworld.com/news/kirk-hammett-talks-greeny-les-paul-meeting-peter-green-and-playing-and-singing-on-a-new-green-and-fleetwood-mac-tribute-record) about a Peter Green tribute album also coming out. In the interview, Hammett notes that he plays on two songs on the album, and one of them – Need Your Love So Bad – involves David. Hammett said: There was a demo of this one song called Need Your Love So Bad that they found. It’s a demo; Peter Green sang that song in his bedroom, and at the end of it you could hear his mom saying to turn it down or something like that. So what they did, they took that vocal track and they isolated it, and they’ve created an augmented instrumentation track done by David Gilmour. So the song Need Your Love So Bad, [was] created by David Gilmour and his band, and they flew in the vocals on top of it. It’s a more modern, updated version of Need Your Love So Bad, and that’s one of the tracks. The other track is Man of the World with myself and Mick Fleetwood. I am singing on it; it’s an easy song to sing, it’s got that talk-singing kind of thing, I can handle that. That’s about the length of my singing abilities, but I’m into it. I’m so into it, I’m into all aspects of it, it’s just one of those things, it just kind of unfolded like this.” Once we have more information about this tribute album, we will of course let you know. As a reminder, the tribute concert includes (other than Hammett and Gilmour) Mick Fleetwood, Billy Gibbons, Jonny Lang, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Zak Starkey, Steven Tyler and Bill Wyman. Alongside the invited guest musicians, the house band consists of Fleetwood alongside Andy Fairweather Low, Dave Bronze and Ricky Peterson, and the concert will be filmed for eventual release.

UK’s Prog Magazine celebrates 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s The Wall

available worldwide online (https://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/Prog-Print-Back-Issues/prog-issue-105/?listtype=list searchparam=prog) is the new issue (issue 105, January 2020) of the UK’s Prog Magazine. Always a decent read, this month’s issue has three features in particular of interest to Pink Floyd fans. First, there’s a two-page look at Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, and in particular, the band’s UK and Ireland tour this year. With comments from Nick and guitarist Lee Harris, it finds the band missing the stage, and looking forward to being back on it in the spring when the dates resume. The main feature is a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s epic double album The Wall in a ten-page feature. They talked to Nick Mason, Bob Ezrin, Gerald Scarfe, and Bob Geldof about how the album evolved into a live extravaganza, a movie and how it pretty much broke the band. It’s a lively, and fascinating, look at this wide-ranging project. The Wall feature is followed by a two-page interview with the Floyd’s Creative Director Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell, and Andy Jackson, long-time collaborator with the band who mixed and produced much of the music on The Later Years. There’s also brand new and exclusive interviews with Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Marillion, Sons Of Apollo, The Flower Kings, Edison’s Children, Kaprekar’s Constant, Nightmare Scenario, The Blackheart Orchestra, American Tears, Field Music, Lee Abraham Music and more… Plus there’s the results of the 2019 Readers’ Poll (with Nick Mason in the top ten drummers, and the Saucers in the top ten event category), and a look at 50 years of the legendary Friars Aylesbury venue. And music from Oak, The Dave Foster Band, Stuckfish, Moonshot Band and more on the CD. If your local store doesn’t stock this magazine, you can get a copy, shipped anywhere in the world, through this direct link (https://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/Prog-Print-Back-Issues/prog-issue-105/?listtype=list searchparam=prog).
