Just announced as a special edition, being sold only in Japan (presumably due to licensing/release agreement), is a very interesting package celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s pair of concerts at Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Hakone, Japan – the band’s first in that country. The background to the release is this: an original 16mm film of Atom Heart Mother from the 1971 Hakone Aphrodite shows was recently discovered. A long time was spent digitizing, restoring and remastering, and to mark the 50th anniversary of the ’71 Hakone Aphrodite event, a special edition (a two disc set of a CD and Blu-ray) of Atom Heart Mother will be released on August 4, 2021 in Japan. The Blu-ray disc contains the restored footage of Atom Heart Mother, showing the band on stage performing the song, and travelling around Japan, together with some additional bonus footage of Pink Floyd’s crew, setting up the show, dealing with issues, etc., which hasn’t been seen before. The pack comes with a 60-page photo book with never-seen-before photos, a reproduction programme, flyer, poster and ticket reprint which all looks great! More details can be found at PinkFloyd.jp (https://www.pinkfloyd.jp/), although if you can’t read Japanese you’ll need to use Google Translate or similar. Orders can now be placed through various links found at sonymusicjapan.lnk.to/PF_gjb (https://sonymusicjapan.lnk.to/PF_gjb) including Amazon Japan, HMV, Sony Music Store, and others. We suspect that most, if not all, of these retailers will happily ship the item worldwide, although in certain countries customs duties or import taxes will be levied, so please be aware of this and check before ordering. If you want to see a quick comparison of a short part of the footage, comparing the newly restored film with what many of us will have been familiar with for many years, here’s something that Sony Music Japan have put together:

The Restored. Re-Edited. Remixed. Delicate Sound of Thunder being released
Those of you fortunate enough to have the Floyd’s Later Years box set will already know just how good the 2020 version (Restored. Re-Edited. Remixed.) of Delicate Sound of Thunder is. This was a result of going directly to the more than 100 cans of original 35mm negatives, painstakingly restoring and transferring the footage to 4K. It was then completely re-edited by Benny Trickett under the creative direction of Aubrey Powell/Hipgnosis. Similarly, the sound was completely remixed from the original multitrack tapes by longtime Floyd engineer Andy Jackson with David Gilmour, assisted by Damon Iddins. Suffice it to say that in the home setting, the quality is quite incredible and the new edit is great! The visual softness of the original VHS release is long gone, thank goodness, and this is as sharp and detailed as you could ever want, with vibrant colours, really showing off the visual aspect of the presentation. Those who HAVEN’T got the box set, get ready for November 20th, 2020, when a stand-alone release of Delicate Sound will be made available, in some very nice sounding editions. You’ll be able to get hold of this on Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD, 3-disc 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and as a deluxe 4-disc edition with bonus tracks. All editions feature 24-page photo booklets, with the 4-disc box edition including a 40-page photo booklet, tour poster and postcards. The 3LP 180-gram vinyl set includes 9 songs not included on the 1988 release of the album, while the 2CD includes 8 tracks more than its original release. It is bound to be a popular release for many, and pre-orders are now open for the various editions. You can order them through the following links, taking advantage of Amazon’s free pre-order price guarantee – should their asking price drop at any point between you ordering it, and release, they will automatically charge you the lowest price during that period! Ordering through our links also helps with BD’s ongoing running costs, and we really appreciate it: DELICATE SOUND DELUXE BOX: Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JF5MBN2/braindamage-20)Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRDH4R2/braindamage-21)Canada Germany (https://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRDH4R2/braindamage0f-21)France (https://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRDH4R2/braindamageon-21)Italy (https://www.amazon.it/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRDH4R2/bradamonl-21)Spain (https://www.amazon.es/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRDH4R2/braidama01-21) DELICATE SOUND 3LP VINYL: Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JGYNQZ8/braindamage-20)Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRCRN1L/braindamage-21)Canada Germany (https://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRCRN1L/braindamage0f-21)France (https://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRCRN1L/braindamageon-21)Italy (https://www.amazon.it/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRCRN1L/bradamonl-21)Spain (https://www.amazon.es/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRCRN1L/braidama01-21) DELICATE SOUND Blu-ray: Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JGYNQZ9/braindamage-20)Amazon UK Canada Germany France Italy Spain DELICATE SOUND DVD: Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JLQLPBS/braindamage-20)Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRC599Z/braindamage-21)Canada Germany (https://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRC599Z/braindamage0f-21)France (https://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRC599Z/braindamageon-21)Italy (https://www.amazon.it/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRC599Z/bradamonl-21)Spain DELICATE SOUND 2CD: Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JF5MBN1/braindamage-20)Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRD62PW/braindamage-21)Canada Germany (https://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRD62PW/braindamage0f-21)France (https://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRD62PW/braindamageon-21)Italy (https://www.amazon.it/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRD62PW/bradamonl-21)Spain (https://www.amazon.es/exec/obidos/ASIN/B08JRD62PW/braidama01-21)

NEW MUSIC: The Novus – Man On The Bridge
Birmingham four-piece The Novus release latest single “Man On The Bridge”, inspired by a half-naked bridge-dancing old chap in Camden. It is a relief to see bands having a bit of fun in lockdown.
