Serious blow for Conte as report claims Real Madrid will rip ‘safe bet’ star from Tottenham

Tottenham are seemingly preparing for the summer departure of Sergio Reguilon after a report claimed Real Madrid have decided to activate the buy-back clause in his contract.

Spurs have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions so far this season. They sat atop the Premier League table after three matches before a dismal run of form saw them freefall into mid-table. That run of form ultimately cost Nuno Espirito Santo his job, with Antonio Conte brought in as a replacement.

Now the Italian is looking to make his mark on the side by making the team his own. And while the January window proved a tough month, late action saw Spurs bring in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

And heading out the exit door were Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil and Tanguy Ndombele.

Now Conte will hope to find a settled side, and with it, cement a top-four place in the remaining months of the season.

However, come the summer window, Conte will seemingly have to find himself a new left wing-back.

That’s a position Reguilon has excelled in for Spurs since arriving in the summer of 2020 from Real Madrid.

A Jose Mourinho signing, Reguilon has now played 50 times for the club, scoring once and assisting three goals.

Indeed, in Conte’s prefered 3-4-3 formation, Reguilon looks the perfect player in the left wing-back role.

However, according to the latest reports in Spain, his time at Spurs will be cut short this summer.

That’s according to ABC, who claims Real Madrid have already decided to activate Reguilon’s buy-back clause this summer.

They claim Carlo Ancelotti’s side are targeting deals for a new centre-half and two new full-backs this summer.

Reguilon ‘heading back to Real Madrid’

And they state that a move for Reguilon is the ‘safe bet’ for Ancelotti’s side. Indeed, they report that Reguilon will cost just a £25m (€30m) fee to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

In addition, Ancelotti feels that ‘man of the house’ Reguilon will soon re-adapt to his surroundings and already ‘understands the pressures’ that come with playing for Real.

Furthermore, they plan for Reguilon to return as a replacement for veteran star Marcelo, who will return to Brazil as a free agent.

Los Blancos are also reportedly considering Valencia’s Jose Gaya and RB Leipzig’s Angelino.

However, Reguilon is the man that Ancelotti wants, with his return posing a serious blow for fellow Italian Conte.

Dejan Kulusevski reveals Premier League player he idolises

Spurs new boy Dejan Kulusevski, meanwhile, admits he tries to model his game on Kevin De Bruyne.

He told Sky Italia, as quoted by The Sun: “I study Kevin De Bruyne a lot because he is a phenomenal player and because I want to become like him.

“It depends on the team, on the game. For how we play in Parma, the coach has found the perfect position for me — as a winger.

“When I was in the Primavera of Atalanta, on the other hand, I played more in the centre. That’s because the action had to start from behind.

“My perfect role? Behind the strikers. When I play, I don’t think about goals or assists.

“With the ball, I think always attacking, to the fact that the defenders have to know who they are dealing with. Having said that, I need to improve in shooting more often and also in scoring more.”
