Napoli will look to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal on loan in January, rather than on a permanent basis, it is claimed in Italy.
The Uruguayan midfielder is being linked with a move back to Serie A, where he used to represent Sampdoria, and Napoli are one of the main contenders for his signature.
Gennaro Gattuso has recently replaced Everton-bound Carlo Ancelotti as manager, but the club are still interested in taking Torreira.
However, Arsenal’s €30m price tag has proven problematic for them so far, so Corriere Dello Sport (via Calciomercato) claim that they are now planning to take him on loan instead.
The formula would see him move to the Stadio San Paolo until the end of the season, before Napoli would be obligated to buy him outright.
Reports prior to the appointment of Mikel Arteta as manager hinted that Arsenal would block the exit of the 23-year-old until the identity of the next coach was clear.
Arteta leads Arsenal for the first time on Boxing Day, when they face Bournemouth away – with the coming weeks set to paint a clearer picture of where their new boss sees Torreira in his plans.
