RUMOUR | New twist in the Nick Tompkins transfer saga

Cardiff Blues are leading the chase to land Saracens and Wales centre Nick Tompkins, according to The Rugby Paper, but only on a single season loan deal.

All four Welsh PRO14 regions have shown interest in signing Wales’ latest Test star but the 25-year-old, who has beaten more defenders than any other player in the 2020 Six Nations Championship is reported to be nearing a deal with John Mulvihill’s Blues side.

London Irish, according to RUCK sources, also made contact with Sarries over a loan deal.

Tompkins, who previously represented England U20 and England Saxons, made his Wales debut in the opening game of the tournament.

Tompkins has two years left on his current deal with Saracens and is keen to return to the club.

That would depend on if Sarries can gain an immediate promotion out of the Championship next season having been relegated in punishment for breaching the Gallagher Premiership’s salary cap.

Seven other England players who went onto play for other countries…

1. Will Addison (Ireland)

Addison was part of the England U20 side which won the Junior Six Nations.[He also featured at the 2012 Junior World Cup.

In March 2018 it was announced that Addison would be joining Pro14 side Ulster with the centre being an Ireland-qualified player.

On 24 October 2018, Addison was named in the Ireland squad for the November Internationals, making his debut for Ireland against Italy.

2. Chris Harris (Scotland)

The Cumbrian centre had a long road from the National League to International rugby. One of those stop-offs was representing England counties. He’s now a regular Scotland international!
