Was Lukaku a scapegoat at Old Trafford?
Inter Milan newboy Romelu Lukaku has suggested he, Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba were scapegoats ‘all of the time’ at Manchester United.
The Belgian departed Old Trafford recently when he joined Serie A outfit Inter Milan.
During his time at Manchester United, Lukaku scored 42 goals in 96 appearances but was still criticised for his performances.
The Belgian also lost his place in the starting line-up last season to Marcus Rashford and ended up with just 12 goals in the Premier League.
Now, after leaving Manchester United, Lukaku has spoken out about how he, Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba were scapegoats.
“It is Pogba, it is me or it is Alexis. It’s the three of us all the time”
Speaking after his exit, Lukaku explained that ‘they have to find somebody’ to scapegoat, and it always fell on him, Alexis and Pogba.
“They have to find somebody. It is Pogba, it is me or it is Alexis. It’s the three of us all the time. For me, I just see it in many ways,” he explained to the LightHarted Podcast, as cited by the Mirror.
Lukaku also went on to speak about the rumours linking him away from Manchester United.
The Belgian claimed that despite the rumours, no one from his former club ‘shot it down’.
“I think a lot of stuff has been said, where I didn’t feel protected,” Lukaku continued.
“A lot of rumours, ‘Rom is going to go there, they don’t want Rom’ and nobody came out and shot it down.”
