Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill 2022 North America tour (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2020-tour-zone/index.php) took place last night (July 6th) at the Pittsburgh PPG Paints Arena. This followed what we hear was a dress rehearsal at Bryce Jordan Center, University Park, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 2nd. Last night saw an enthralled crowd in Pittsburgh taking in the music, in a diverse and interesting set list, the spectacle, and the occasion itself. First nights are always fun, with everyone being in the same boat in terms of no knowledge of what is going to happen and when. Initial reports are that the show was quite an experience, but as always, we value your first hand views on all the concerts – so if you went, please let us know your thoughts! start of March, we noted that the UK’s edition of Classic Rock included a detailed, twelve page article written by Pink Floyd biographer Mark Blake (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/pink-floyd-reinvent-themselves-in-new-issue-of-classic-rock-mag.html) taking a close look at life for the band immediately after Syd Barrett left it. The article – now translated into German for that country’s version of the magazine – investigates how the band got back on their feet following Syd’s departure, and shows how they reinvented themselves. Blake details how this came via strange, afternoon shows for school kids in the Netherlands, bizarre promo videos, unusual soundtrack albums, and shows which were rather avant-garde – as well as albums which showed the development of the band’s sound. As ever, Blake’s writing proves enlightening and entertaining, peppered with comments from the musicians themselves. Well worth a read!
