Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has completely shut down suggestions that Giovanni van Bronckhorst could be facing the sack at his old club.
The Ibrox outfit were beaten 2-1 at home by Old Firm rivals Celtic on Sunday to fall six points behind in the two-team Scottish Premiership title race.
That loss has led some pundits to suggest that the Dutchman is not up to the job.
However, Ferguson has rallied behind his former teammate and thinks Van Bronckhorst deserves more time.
“No, I can’t see [him getting the sack]. No way,” Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show.
“He’s only had one window in January and we all know what that window is like, it’s a tough window.
“I think the summer is massive for Gio and speaking to him last week, he knows that.
“There are players he wants to extend contracts and there are players he’s identified to make Rangers stronger and better so there’s no doubt in my mind that he will be the manager at the start of next season.”
Van Bronckhorst needs more time
While it remains to be seen whether Van Bronckhorst will be given that time, Ferguson expects his old mate to turn things around.
He added: “I know Gio and I expect a big turnaround in the summer.”
Rangers are next in action on Thursday night when they take on Braga in Europa League quarter-finals.
Their next league outing is a lunchtime trip to St Mirren. However, by then Celtic could have moved nine points clear as they tackle St Johnstone at home.
