Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes the partnership between Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes is already flourishing and could see a title challenge at Old Trafford next season.
United’s form has improved vastly since the long-awaited arrival of Fernandes in January. The Red Devils are still yet to lose when the Portugal international has played.
Fans have had to be patient to see Fernandes partnering Pogba due to the latter’s injury struggles earlier in the year. But with those now firmly behind him, the pair are beginning to light up the United midfield.
Pogba and Fernandes have blown away any doubts from pundits that they couldn’t play together. Now, thanks to their input, United could be on course for a top four finish.
And Bosnich, who had two spells with United, thinks the duo have made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a “formidable force” that, with a couple more additions, could soon aim even higher and challenge for silverware.
“I think they’ve been very good for some time, even before the re-start,” Bosnich told Sky Sports.
“I think the re-start has just confirmed what everybody thought and basically proved a lot as well, in terms of the fact that Pogba alongside Fernandes has turned them into a formidable force.
“Even before that, they were on a tremendous run. But seeing them after this – even though obviously they were a little bit rusty in their opening game, I think it was against Spurs – they’ve been absolutely fantastic.
“And everything being equal, I would say one, possibly two more signings maximum – I think that sooner rather than later they’ll be challenging for the top spot.”
FERNANDES KEY TO MAN UTD MENTALITY
Last week, United left-back Luke Shaw joined the widespread praise of Fernandes – similarly claiming the former Sporting star has transformed the club.
Shaw also added plaudits for Pogba, who has “hit the ground running” since his return and appears to have quelled any talk he could be sold.
“For me, Bruno is a massive part of the change in the culture that is now going on at United,” Shaw told Sky Sports.
“I think he pushes that day in, day out. An amazing guy off the pitch, he’s funny and he has massive confidence in his own ability – which none of us doubt because he’s been perfect on the pitch.
“Not just that, but the whole team’s changed I believe. I think the injuries we had also – Paul and [Marcus Rashford], two very key players for us have also come back and hit the ground running in this part of the season.”
