Paper Talk: Rivals set to beat Man Utd to Jadon Sancho in 2021 as cost nears £230m; West Ham told price for Champ star

Man Utd’s chances of signing Jadon Sancho look more remote than ever with two rivals set to pounce in 2021, while West Ham could solve a problem by signing a £4m Championship star, according to Wednesday’s transfer gossip.

LIVERPOOL, BAYERN FOR JADON SANCHO

Manchester United walked away from signing Jadon Sancho after calculating the spiralling costs over the deal.

United failed to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund over the England attacker, having been set a £108m asking price.

The Red Devils chased the winger long and hard all summer and twice failed with bids for Sancho.

However, deadline day came and went without a deal being struck. Dortmund refused, the entire time, to budge from their asking price.

The whole saga made for an embarrassing affair for United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer referenced United’s status as one of the most “financially well-off” clubs in an interview during lockdown.

The Norwegian also said he was confident that his side could conduct the business they had planned – a transfer for Sancho.

But the United’s bosses comments about “exploiting” the market came back to haunt him.

The whole saga – and United’s conduct – reportedly irked Dortmund.

Now The Guardian has shed more light on the failure of United to finalise the deal.

They claim United walked away from Sancho after realising the transfer would cost close to £227m. The amount would have reached that fee due to Dortmund’s asking price, the players’ wage demands and the fee wanted by his agent.

In the end, it’s claimed they decided that was just too costly, leaving the club to explore other avenues. Atalanta’s Amad Diallo ended up signing in a potential €40m deal; a row with Parma has since broken out over the move.

SANCHO INTEREST TO MOUNT

United’s chances of ever signing Sancho now appear more remote than ever. As per The Independent, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are now seen as likelier destinations for the winger next summer.

They claim United’s best chance to sign him would have been this summer. But with his fee likely to decline next summer, that will open the door to both Liverpool and Bayern to make their move.
