“Tests on Sunday morning, December 6, have shown that first-team player Ousmane Dembélé has a hamstring elongation. He will therefore not be considered for selection and the evolution of the injury will determine his availability.”
“Against Cádiz, the French winger, coming off the bench, participated in his 12th game of the year and had, to that point, scored four goals.”
Dembele missed 19 Barcelona matches last season with a hamstring injury, missing 191 days of action. In the same season, the Frenchman missed 15 games with a torn muscle bundle.
Dembele’s injury issues stretch back to 2017/18 where the winger missed 106 days of action and 20 games with his initial hamstring problem which has plagued him ever since.
Koeman and Barca lose again
Barcelona were humbled once again by the La Liga surprise side of the season. Cadiz and former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo have recorded victories against both of Spain’s hyper clubs. Cadiz were able to pick 3 points up against Real Madrid earlier in the season.
However, their 2-1 win against Barcelona showed again their threat as a great counter-attacking side.
Clement Lenglet and Andre Ter Stegen were caught up in an almighty mess which led to Negredo’s goal and Koeman was not best pleased.
“It’s incredible that we lost because of a goal like that, it’s an error you do not expect this team to make. It shows we were not concentrating. The attitude was not good tonight. I’m very disappointed,” said the Dutch coach.
In regards to the possibility the side have of reclaiming the La Liga title after losing it to Real Madrid during the last campaign, Koeman was not optimistic having now left a 12-point gap to leaders Atletico Madrid.
“It’s a huge step back in terms of winning La Liga,” Koeman said. “It’s disappointing but we must accept it, even though being 12 points back from a strong team like Atletico is a lot.
“The result today is difficult to explain. We concede the first goal and weren’t good in attack, with too many players in the middle of the pitch.”
“That’s not the level I expect from my team. We must improve. We must be more focused. In general, the attitude without the ball was not good.”
Barcelona currently sit 8th on 14 points but just 3 points above the relegation zone after 10 matches.
