Hull-based Warren Records release Joe Russell-Brown’s “Nausea / Fatigue” as the first single from the Three Minute Heroes compilation album.
Here’s something a little different for your Saturday listening; the first of many tracks to be released from the Warren Records Three Minute Heroes project. A few musicians from Hull who are currently making waves on local radio have been selected by Warren Records to take part in an initiative based on music and mental health, and Joe Russell-Brown’s “Nausea / Fatigue” is the first of the project’s successes to be released.
Three Minute Heroes plays on the power of healing that music can bring, and for this particular single, Joe Russell-Brown collaborated with brave young people in the local area to form the content behind his song.
“Initially I got sent a load of PDF’s of things that these young people had written, and it was kind of just a pleasure to read through them,” Joe explains. “I had to think [about] what would fit my sound, maybe [whether it’s] something similar to what I would write, and eventually I found a piece”. The result of this heartwarming collaboration is an indie-slacker guitar-based tune that discusses young people’s abilities to overthink and get lost in moments of doubt and insecurity.
Joe Russell-Brown has been enjoying plenty of success in the Hull music scene, with support from BBC Introducing and 6 Music, and shares space on the forthcoming Three Minute Heroes album with a few other talented Hull-based artists. His inimitable, languid vocal delivery reflects the sensitive quality of the lyrics, and guitar hooks are layered atop of one another, making for a lo-fi earworm that’s likely to stick with you for days.
