Norway’s Circumnavigate release new single “Layer You Up”, a stunning soundscape to send shivers down your spine.
Goosebumps! A side effect of listening to beautiful music, and one that I’ve not had the pleasure of experiencing for some time – that is, until listening to Circumnavigate’s new single “Layer You Up”. This is a wonderfully simple (yet extraordinarily effective) track for fans of The Cinematic Orchestra and Sigur Rós, featuring a gentle piano and vocal with aptly layered harmonies, primed and ready to send shivers down your spine.
The Oslo four-piece are currently based in London, offering a fresh outlook on the dream-folk genre that their previous releases have subscribed to. “Layer You Up” follows up on Circumnavigate’s 2017 debut album which was met with critical acclaim from Music Week to BBC Introducing, and I’ll not be surprised to see their new single attract new fans internationally, charming them with its sweeping soundscapes and film soundtrack-friendly essence.
This single, the band explain, is inspired by seeing a dear friend in a spot of turmoil and offering to shield and protect them by layering them up. If you would wish any song to be written about you, it would surely be this one – it’s easy to imagine, when listening to “Layer You Up”, that you are being wrapped up in a blanket of beautiful, warm harmonies with a nice cup of tea. Circumnavigate have proved themselves to be the only friend you’ll ever need!
