On his day, Gylfi Sigurdsson can be a real game-changer for Everton. A dead-ball specialist with countless inch-perfect free-kicks to his name, and with a real eye for the spectacular too.
But sadly for the Toffees, those days are simply too inconsistent for their liking. This season, the Iceland international has really struggled to get going with just two goals to his name in 19 games across all competitions – one of them being that stunning strike against West Ham back in mid-October.

Since that victory in fact, Sigurdsson has failed to either score or provide a single assist, and against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, he was once again anonymous. As per Sofascore, his 6.3 match rating was the worst of any Toffees player who started the game, and when looking at his underlying numbers it is easy to see why.
He failed to provide any key passes, failed to complete any of his five attempted crosses, and lost possession 11 times. And after seeing his display, Everton fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the 30-year-old.
Ancelotti could come in and sell half this squad and it wouldn’t bother me. That Sigurdsson is the worst of the bunch’.

Once again, Sigurdsson just ran round doing nothing. Wasted player.

Sigurdsson playing hide and seek with the ball again far to pedestrian to be an effective number ten

A few fans criticised him for being a “passenger” in the game, with one supporter in particular insisting that he’s a luxury that they can’t afford to have.
People tweeting on this making out sigurdsson is the greatest playmaker going. He’s the biggest passenger going the absolute fraud https://t.co/Ck88oWeTcA

Sigurdsson standing around all through the game randomly pointing was enough to put me off my ale but I am now having a peroni to toast the post-sigurdsson future

Sigurdsson is just a total passenger, and we can’t afford that luxury of having someone who turns up for one moment when he can be bothered. He’s finished and has been for a while, unfortunately he’s probably going to be hard to get rid of.

Some supporters of the Toffees even suggested they should look to sell him, with one fan in particular calling him a “disastrous signing”.
Sigurdsson is a waste of space.
Dont bother @ing me. Sell him.
— Joanne (@Joannecolaa) 21 December 2019
Keane, Tosun, Sigurdsson should be sold ASAP not good enough in my eyes.
— Benj Winstanley (@benjwinstanley) 21 December 2019
Well put. Overall Sigurdsson a disastrous signing, we need to cut our losses and move him on in the next window.

At 30-years-old, the time-frame for Everton to get decent money for Sigurdsson is reducing, so if Carlo Ancelotti believes the Iceland international isn’t up to the standards he wants, then a move away as soon as possible may be best.
