Mo Salah’s agent responds to talk that winger will miss start of next season to play at the Olympics

Salah to miss start of 2020/21 campaign?

Mohamed Salah is arguably one of the top players currently honing their craft in the Premier League.

The Liverpool winger is having yet another impressive season, in which he has netted 14 and assisted six in 22 league outings.

So, Liverpool being without the 27-year-old for any period of time would likely be a big blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Well, on Wednesday the 12th of February, the Evening Standard have reported that Salah could be absent for the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Egypt are set to take part in the 2020 Olympics, which starts on Friday the 24th of July and ends on Sunday the 9th of August, one day after the start of the next Premier League season.

And Egypt’s Under-23s boss Shawky Gharib has said that Salah would be one of three permitted overage players selected for them in this summer’s Olympics:

“Out of the three senior players we’ll call-up, Salah is the only one we’re settled on so far because he’s simply one of the top three players in the world.

“I haven’t talked to Salah at all about him joining the U23 squad for the Olympics, but in all honesty, his participation in the Olympics will need a little effort from him as well.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

In the wake of Gharib’s comments, Salah’s agent has taken to Twitter to state that no decision has been made yet regarding his client’s involvement in the Olympics.

Norwich vs Liverpool

Salah, along with the rest of the Liverpool squad, is set to get the Reds’ current season back underway on Saturday.

The European champions will travel to Norwich City in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off.

Given Liverpool are 22 points clear at the top of the table whilst Norwich are dead bottom, you would imagine this will be a fairly routine victory for Klopp’s men.

The last time these two sides met was at the very beginning of the current campaign.

Liverpool emerged with a 4-1 victory on that occasion. You can watch the highlights below.
