As per a report from John Cross of the Mirror, Mikel Arteta is one of a number of candidates still under consideration as a potential replacement for Unai Emery at Arsenal.
Arsenal held by Wolves
Emery’s men welcomed Wolves to the Emirates this past weekend, for their latest Premier League outing.
The Gunners headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, on the back of a disappointing couple of weeks.
Since the international break, Arsenal had managed just a solitary win from 4 fixtures.
When all was said and done in north London on Saturday, though, the struggles of the capital giants continued.
Arsenal did take the lead early on, courtesy of star hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The latest in a string of underwhelming performances from the hosts, though, eventually allowed Raul Jimenez to level things up 15 minutes from time, to secure a share of the spoils for Wolves.
Emery out, Arteta in?
This marked the 3rd-straight outing in which Arsenal failed to secure victory after taking an early lead.
As such, with the Londoners now 6 points off the Premier League’s top-4 with just 11 games played, and having already been eliminated from the League Cup, pressure is inevitably beginning to mount on Unai Emery.
A number of potential replacements, meanwhile, have already been touted for the Arsenal boss, with the Mirror’s John Cross having today provided an insight into the situation.
It is suggested that the board at the Emirates have ‘limited’ options when it comes to new managers.
Jose Mourinho’s appointment would come as hugely-unpopular with large sections of the club’s fans, with Max Allegri also looking altogether-unlikely.
One contender still said to be firmly ‘on the radar’ of the Arsenal brass, though, is Mikel Arteta.
Manchester City no.2 Arteta was tipped to take the reins at his former club in the summer of 2018, before Unai Emery’s appointment.
Now, though, Cross claims that the Gunners could ‘turn back’ to Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man, in the case that they do decide to part ways with Emery over the coming months.
