Manchester United ease past Granada and advance to Europa League semi finals

Manchester United eased into the Semi Finals, of the Europa League, where they will face Roma,  following a win over Granada in Spain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took the leave after just 6 minutes when Paul Pogba superbly flicked Alex Telles’ cross onto the boot of Edinson Cavani, whose volley found the bottom corner.

It was the only shot United had in the first half, but with them 3-0 up on aggregate the tie was effectively over bar a miracle.

Granada created a host of chances but were unable to get back into the tie.

United finished the tie off when they scored again in the 90th minute, moments after De Gea had made a brilliant point blank save to deny Herrera.

The hosts broke away and Alex Telles crossed towards Juan Mata but Jesus Vallejo directed the ball into his own net.

Speaking after the game to BT Sport, Bruno Fernandes said, United did well and sung the praises of Edinson Cavani.

“It was a good game. The Europa League is always difficult to play. It doesn’t matter who you play against.”

“We know Granada have quality- they can create something. We did well. We controlled the game and had a lot of the ball. We kept the ball moving. The results show that. Now is the time for the next step and win a semi-final. Before then it’s time to focus on the league.

“He Cavani, is a a proper striker, a proper number nine.”

On facing Roma in the semis he continued, “Every team will give you problems. They have a good organisation defensively, they can create problems offensively. Some of their players have played in England. We know what we have to do. If we do the right things, we will have our chances to win the game.”

Should they beat Roma, they could face Arsenal in the final after they overcame Slavia Prague to also reach the last four.
