Manchester United target Moises Caicedo is the “real deal” and already offers more going forward than his idol N’Golo Kante, according to a South American football expert.
United are in the hunt to sign the Ecuadorian 19-year-old this month. Indeed, initial reports of the Red Devils’ interest surfaced towards the end of 2020.
Since then, further speculation has claimed to offer updates on the progress of the deal. While the transfer to Old Trafford is close, legal issues reportedly remain.
Amid the lack of closure, Chelsea and Everton have reportedly emerged as new candidates to sign Caicedo.
According to Tim Vickery, though, United are the closest to a deal of the three parties. What’s more, the South American expert opened up on what the Independiente del Valle teenager will bring to the club.
“It looks like he is locked in for Manchester United and if it goes through, they’ve got themselves the real deal Holyfield!,” he said (via Sky Sports News).
“Only 19. The way the market is going with South American football is the European clubs want to take them as early as possible. They are buying on promises.
“The fella Moises Caicedo is much more than promise, he is reality. He is the first player born in the 21st century to score a goal in South American World Cup qualifiers.”
Caicedo said last year that Blues midfielder Kante is his idol. The Frenchman has enjoyed an illustrious career in England since his move to Leicester, winning two Premier League titles.
What’s more, the 29-year-old also formed a vital part of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning campaign.
Vickery talks up Caicedo ability
However, Vickery claimed that Caicedo has already shown that he has more in his locker than Kante.
“A year ago he was saying that Kante of Chelsea is his role model but he is already more than that. He already offers more in the final third,” Vickery said.
“That kind of box-to-box midfielder that’s very much in the tradition of the England game.
“Strong, quick, intelligent and cool. He really does look like the genuine article.”
Caicedo earned his first cap for Ecuador in October and has scored one goal in a total of four outings to date.
