Inter Milan could test Manchester United’s resolve to see if they will cash in on Alex Telles in the summer, a report claims.
Telles joined United from Porto at the start of the season with big expectations. It was thought that the Brazilian would take over from Luke Shaw as the starting left-back.
A combination of factors have ensured that has not been the case. Telles has struggled to shake off injuries, while Shaw has been in outstanding form.
Hence, Telles has been limited to just seven Premier League appearances. It seems unlikely he will dislodge Shaw any time soon.
Now, there are claims emerging that Telles could end his Man Utd adventure after just one season.
According to Inter Live, United could be willing to offer the 28-year-old back to his former club Inter Milan in a swap offer for Marcelo Brozovic.
Telles previously played for Inter in the 2015-16 season, when he was on loan from Galatasaray. Now, they are looking for a new left-back, and may go back in for him.
This could work to United’s advantage, as Brozovic could move to Old Trafford in return.
The Croatian midfielder has frequently been linked with a Premier League move, but rarely to United. Now, they could have joined the chasing pack.
Brozovic remains a key player for Inter, but is out of contract in 2022. If he does not renew, they may need to sell him in the summer.
That could pave the way for a swap deal between United and Inter for Brozovic and Telles.
Costs of deal revealed
Inter Live claim that Telles would cost around €20m, while Brozovic is worth at least €30m. Hence, the deal would suit Inter better financially.
However, United would also make a profit on Telles, whom they only paid €15m for when they signed him from Porto.
He remains under contract until 2024, with the option for a further year, so it may be a little surprising if United were to let him go.
