Manchester United have reportedly come to a decision over whether to renew their interest in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr before the domestic transfer deadline.
The Senegal attacker is still available, having been targeted by United in the final weeks of the international window.
Sarr was a major bright spot for the Hornets during their relegation campaign. He was viewed as a viable alternative to top target Jadon Sancho, as that deal fell through.
However, the Red Devils snapped up young wingers Amad Diallo and Facuno Pellistri instead. That was after another potential deal for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele also collapsed on deadline day.
Players can still move between Premier League and EFL clubs until October 16. To that end, there had been suggestions United could yet swoop for Sarr.
But, according to Goal, United’s hierarchy have decided against the transfer.
United would need to sign Sarr before naming Champions League squad on Tuesday if they wanted to include him.
The main reason why a deal for the Watford star did not happen in the first place is that United wanted a loan deal.
However, the Hornets insisted on a permanent transfer and that scuppered the proposed transfer.
Liverpool also wanted the winger but they moved Diogo Jota instead after baulking at Watford’s asking price.
Sarr scored six goals in 30 appearances for the Vicarage Road outfit last season.
The 22-year-old has played twice in the Championship so far this term. However, he may now end up waiting until January to make his exit.
Transfer expert in surprise United claim
United had identified Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri as a last-minute plan B in case they could not sign Alex Telles on deadline day.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who told the Here We Go podcast that United were considering a late swoop for Emerson.
The Italy international has struggled to establish himself as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back since joining from Roma. To address this, Chelsea signed Ben Chilwell from Leicester over the summer.
Man Utd also wanted a new left-back in order to provide sterner competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.
They eventually got their man by bringing Telles in from Porto. United took advantage of the Brazilian being in the last year of his contract to acquire him for a relatively modest fee. Read more…
