Lucky Iris release alt-pop bop ‘blowing kisses’

Lucky Iris just can’t stop making alt-pop anthems worthy of the dance floor and ‘blowing kisses’ is the latest of those from the Leeds duo.

blowing kisses explores the depth of having a crush on someone as you discover more about them, contrary to the inspiration of the single which Maeve Florsheim (one half of Lucky Iris) reveals “I overheard someone say; ‘a crush is just a lack of information’, and I just couldn’t get that out of my head – but I refuse to see a crush as just that because it just takes all the fun out of it, doesn’t it?!”

The single features well crafted glitchy electronics and punchy synthetics courtesy of the other half of the duo in Jasper Exley, providing a lovely juxtaposition to Maeve’s typically calmly and cooly delivered vocals and playful lyricism.

Lucky Iris are set to release an EP on 11th August titled ‘maybe I’m too much’ – and if blowing kisses is anything to go by then it promises to deliver some equally as infectious music from the pair.

The Dark Side Of The Moon – back at number one in UK charts!

However good an album is, one tends to expect a healthy showing in the charts around the time of release, and then, a gradual drop (or in some cases, a sudden plummet!) down the charts and often out, not to bother the chart again. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule… Pink Floyd’s 1973 opus, The Dark Side Of The Moon, is well known for many reasons, not least for the amount of time it has spent on the album charts in regions around the world. This week though, it has proved itself still capable of springing a surprise! In the Official UK Charts, and specifically in the Rock and Metal Album Chart (https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/rock-and-metal-albums-chart/), it has returned to the top spot! More than that, it has been joined by four other Floyd releases in the top spots. Here’s where the five Pink Floyd albums can be found in this week’s Top 30 chart: #1 – The Dark Side Of The Moon#5 – Wish You Were Here#17 – Delicate Sound Of Thunder#23 – The Wall#26 – Animals Quite an impressive showing, especially as four of the five albums in the Top 30 are from the 1970s! We suspect that the success of the Delicate Sound Of Thunder reissue has resulted in fans seeking out older, studio albums to fill essential gaps in their record collections.

Weather stops Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets gig in Vicenza, Italy

Last night, show four of the 2023 Echoes Tour in Europe saw Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets back in Italy, which like much of the central band of Europe has been suffering with extreme weather, with temperatures breaking records in many places. As you’ll see from the below, sadly a bad storm came in shortly before the band were due on stage in the Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza, forcing organisers to evacuate the city square where the concert was to be held, for everyone’s safety.

Wish You Were Here – A People’s History of Pink Floyd

Wish You Were Here – A People’s History of Pink Floyd is the title of a new book about the Floyd, although author Richard Houghton readily admits that the book isn’t entirely new, as it’s an update of an earlier work from 2017. The book tells the story of Pink Floyd through more than 500 eyewitness accounts, mixing concert memories with other encounters with the band. As well as stories from the beginnings of the band’s career and accounts of arena shows, there are a number of more intimate encounters. One example is the story of Norman Whitehall, who travelled with a friend to Bridgend in Wales to see Pink Floyd at the tiny Kee Club in March 1969, only to be told that they couldn’t get in because it was a members-only club. A disconsolate Norman wandered the streets with his friend until they bumped into the band themselves, who took pity on them and escorted them into the club and through to their dressing room, where band and fans shared a joint. Richard said: “I had a book entitled Pink Floyd – I Was There published in paperback, but that book has been out of print for a few years. I’ve managed to acquire the rights to the book and decided to republish it through my own company, Spenwood Books, and give the material in the book the treatment it deserves. The new book is coming out in hardback in a larger format, with full colour photos on high quality paper. I’ve also collected over 100 new accounts of seeing the Floyd live that weren’t in the original book. This includes several tales from the period when Syd was in the band. So it’s a fascinating look back at Pink Floyd as it’s their history told in the words of fans, and it provides a very different take on a story that’s been told many times before.
