An explanation for Aston Villa star Lucas Digne being hauled off early in the club’s meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon has been provided.
For those not aware, left-back Digne set alarm bells ringing across the Villa fanbase earlier today, in departing the action at Molineux inside the opening quarter of an hour.
The immediate assumption, in turn, was that the Frenchman had picked up a fresh fitness concern, after being seen to on the pitch by the visitors’ medical team.
Speaking to the media on the back of the action coming to a close on Saturday afternoon, Steven Gerrard was therefore inevitably asked for an update on Digne’s situation, amid questions over what exactly was behind his premature exit from the action.
And Aston Villa’s boss, in turn, went on to reveal that his side’s January addition was in fact not injured, but instead dealing with a bout of illness:

Wolves triumph
Gerrard’s update on Digne of course comes fresh on the back of another disappointing afternoon’s work for his side on Saturday.
The Claret and Blue made the trip to Molineux in search of a much-needed bounce-back performance, after seeing a three-game win streak brought to a firm end courtesy of back-to-back defeats at the hands of West Ham and Arsenal prior to the international break.
When all was said and done in the Midlands, though, Villa were ultimately forced to face up to a third Premier League defeat on the bounce.
Though Ollie Watkins did manage to pull one back late on, Ashley Young adding to Jonny’s early opener courtesy of an own goal shortly after the half-hour mark ensured that all three points, in the end, went the way of Wolves.
