Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has this evening provided a fitness update on star midfielder James Maddison, on the back of his side’s victory over Newcastle.
Leicester run riot
The Foxes welcomed Steve Bruce’s struggling Magpies to the King Power Stadium a short time ago.
Unlike their opponents, Leicester headed into proceedings in fine form.
After putting Tottenham to the sword in the league last weekend, Rodgers’ men followed up with a 4-0 drubbing of Luton Town in the League Cup during the week.
Newcastle, on the other hand, had failed to pick up a victory in any of their last 4 outings across all competitions.
And, when all was said and done at the King Power, form held true.
A dominant display on the part of Leicester eventually saw the home side emerge with a 5-0 victory.
Strikes from Ricardo Pereira, Jamie Vardy (2), Wilfred Ndidi and a Paul Dummett own goal proved the difference between the sides, with Newcastle having also seen Isaac Hayden given his marching orders late in the first-half.
‘Hopefully next week’
Leicester’s 5-goal haul came despite the Foxes having been without key performer James Maddison this evening.
22-year-old Maddison missed out with an ankle problem, picked up versus Spurs last weekend.
As such, speaking on the back of his side’s latest impressive result, Brendan Rodgers was questioned on when Maddison is expected to make a return to the pitch.
And the Leicester boss went on to confirm that he expects his midfield string-puller to be available to face Liverpool next weekend:
Maddison expected to return in week eight. “We wanted to give him every chance but it was always going to be unlikely,” Rodgers explained on the absence of his play maker today. “He’s back working and hopefully next week he will be fine.” #LCFC
