Leeds star offered new deal at Elland Road and may sign next month

Leeds United are reportedly set to offer Ezgjan Alioski a new long-term contract and hope he pens the deal before the new year.

The 28-year-old has become a vital member of the Leeds first team, making seven appearances and four starts this season. He enjoyed 125 outings across three seasons in the Championship and has bagged 20 goals in all competitions.

The Macedonia international is now in the final year of his contract in West Yorkshire. That means he would be free to start negotiating with other clubs in January but Leeds hope it won’t happen.

Football Insider are reporting that the left-sided star will be offered £30,000 per week on a four-year deal. The Peacocks have shown faith in established players in recent times.

Stars such as Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich all penned new terms last year. The quartet are in their late 20s, with Marcelo Bielsa clearly looking for experience to aid top-flight survival.

Alioski has started three of Leeds last four league encounters and played his part in Sunday’s goalless draw with Arsenal.

He was involved in the incident that saw Gunners ace Nicolas Pepe sent off for a headbutt. Alioski managed to shake it off and produced a solid display from left-back to earn a vital point.

Youngster set for Leeds move?

While experience may be the watchword for Bielsa, Barcelona prospect Riqui Puig has been linked with the Whites. The 21-year-old made 11 appearances for the Catalans last term but is now on the peripheries.

The midfielder has played just three minutes of league football in 2020-2021 and a loan move may suit. According to a report by 90min, his agent has offered Bielsa the opportunity to take him on loan in January.

The player still sees his future at the Nou Camp but much will depend on manager Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman is under intense pressure due to a series of poor results.

Marcelo Bielsa TEAMtalk

If he is shown the door, then Puig’s chances of seeing more action should increase. Lionel Messi has reportedly spoken to the Spain Under-21 ace and convinced him to fight at Barca. But regular playing time in the Premier League would certainly boost his profile.

Barcelona are due to elect their next president in 2021 and a new man at the helm may spell the end for Koeman. Barca are 13th in the La Liga standings although they do have two games in hand on many clubs.
