Leeds get transfer green light as firm talks over €30m striker are held

Leeds could this week settle on a club-record deal to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno, according to reports in Spain.

Leeds were linked with a move for the 29-year-old last week as they prepare for their top flight return. Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be a fan of his relentless work rate and sees him fitting into his system.

And his hopes of signing Rodrigo have received a boost after a report claimed the Spain striker would be keen on a move to Elland Road.

Despite being a key part of the plans at Valencia, they say he is ready for a new challenge elsewhere. With plenty of excitement building around Leeds’ Premier League comeback, the Whites could be the ideal option for him.

Now reports in Spanish paper Sport claim firm talks over a deal have been held. They claim Los Che are willing to offload the player to the Yorkshire side and talks between the two parties had taken place.

Valencia are looking to offload a number of their biggest names after running into some financial problems.

As such, the LaLiga giants are reported to have set Leeds a €25m – €30m asking price for the Brazil-born hitman.

As per Sport, the transfer now has a ‘serious chance’ of happening proving a deal can be negotiated.

Atletico Madrid are also credited with an interest but are yet to make an approach – giving Leeds a firm head start.

It was claimed last week that Bielsa wants Rodrigo in his side ahead of their return to Premier League action at Liverpool on September 12.

Gerrard gives Leeds Ryan Kent hope

Steven Gerrard has, meanwhile, conceded that Ryan Kent will “probably” sign for for Leeds if they increase their bid.

Rangers boss Gerrard revealed on Friday his club rejected a £10million bid for the former Liverpool forward.

However, the Whites will increase their offer from £10million to £14million in a bid to tempt Gerrard into doing business.

As such, Gerrard admits he would be powerless to prevent the winger moving to Leeds. That’s after the Liverpool legend suggested a clause in his contract could force Rangers’ hand.

“Every player has different things in their contracts, that’s just the way it is,” he said.

“Negotiations take place between each individual and the club and it’s not my place to divulge what is in an individual’s contract.

“What I will say is that if the valuation of any player is met then as much as I would like the final say on it, it will probably be taken out of my hands.”

Kent is a long-term target for Bielsa and Gerrard admits if United want him, they’ll probably get him.
