Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has named Liverpool’s Sadio Mane as the Premier League’s finest performer to this point in the campaign.
Mane impressing once again
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have of course enjoyed a historic season to date.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic brought football in England to a halt, Liverpool had built a staggering 25-point advantage over 2nd-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table.
This came with the Merseyside giants having dropped points in just 2 of their 29 league fixtures.
Key to this success, as has of course been the case over the last couple of seasons, have been the contributions of attackers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
While it is the former who so often takes the plaudits due to his goalscoring exploits, though, many feel that Mane has actually enjoyed the more impressive term to date in 2019/20.
As things stand, the Senegalese international has racked up 16 goals and 8 assists across all competitions, including 21 direct goal contributions in the Premier League.
‘The total package’
And, as outlined above, one individual who feels that Mane has been not only Liverpool, but the Premier League’s standout performer throughout the campaign, is Kevin De Bruyne.
Belgian midfielder De Bruyne has of course enjoyed a stellar season of his own to date, with many of the opinion that the Manchester City star should also be in with a shout of securing the Premier League Player of the Year award.
The 28-year-old himself, however, appears to be in no two minds regarding Mane’s status as the English top-flight’s best in 2019/20.
With the PFA awards, before the coronavirus outbreak, having been due to take place this weekend, De Bruyne was questioned on his Player of the Year thus far during an interview with BT Sport earlier today.
And the Man City star went on to explain:
‘I would say Mane.’
‘I think he has been the total package this year for Liverpool.’
‘He has been important, so if I had to choose somebody, I would choose Mane.’
