The representative of Chelsea star Jorginho has this evening quashed suggestions that his client could join Juventus this summer.
Jorginho’s Blues stint
Italian international Jorginho made the move to Stamford Bridge from Napoli in the summer of 2018, following Maurizio Sarri from the Stadio San Paolo to London.
However, the 28-year-old, much like his now-former boss, subsequently endured something of an up-and-down debut campaign with Chelsea.
A change of system for the Blues saw Jorginho moved into N’Golo Kante’s position at the base of the the club’s midfield, albeit in a deep-lying regista role, as opposed to Kante’s previous defensive-minded role.
And while the former Napoli standout went on to showcase that he is very much capable of controlling the tempo of proceedings when Chelsea are in possession, his defensive shortcomings were all-too regularly highlighted by the all-action stylings of the Premier League.
The current season, though, has seen Jorginho, to his credit, look much-improved.
Having settled further into the physical requirements of English football, the gifted Italian looks better equipped to run Chelsea’s midfield, with Jorginho himself citing ‘more determination’ on the defensive side of the ball as key to his upturn in form.
The Verona youth product has, as a result, gone on to establish himself as an integral member of Frank Lampard’s squad.
Before the campaign was halted by the COVID-19 outbreak, Jorginho had appeared in all but 3 of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures, as well as the Blues’ 7 Champions League outings.
‘Very happy in London’
Despite his growing importance at Stamford Bridge, however, reports over the course of the campaign have consistently hinted that Jorginho could be set for a swift return to Serie A.
Juventus have been the outfit most persistently-touted as a potential destination for the midfielder, where he would of course once again reunite with Maurizio Sarri.
In fact, just today, speculation suggested that the Italian champions were ready to offer up out-of-favour attacker Federico Bernardeschi as part of an exchange deal for Jorginho.
However, if the latest comments on the part of the Chelsea star’s agent are anything to go by, then Jorginho’s future looks altogether unlikely to lie outside of London.
Speaking in an interview with Italian outlet Calciomercato earlier today, Joao Santos was drawn on the rumours of a potential Juventus switch for his client.
Santos, though, was quick to assure that Jorginho remains fully committed to the Chelsea cause, even hinting at a potential contract extension with Frank Lampard’s side:
‘I read that, but I never had contact with them.’
‘Neither Sarri, nor [Juve’s chief football officer] Fabio Paratici called me to have information on Jorginho.’
‘As of today, I know absolutely nothing about this situation. The lad is very happy in London, where he is proving his worth and still has three years left on his contract.’
‘In fact, in July there’s the possibility we can start talks to add a fourth and extend his contract with Chelsea.’
‘I don’t know what Juve’s transfer strategy is, but these are our plans for the future.’
