In Conversation with Svea Lyon

Acoustic singer/songwriter Svea Lyon hails from the United States of America sharing her soulful songs with the nation.  Ever since Svea started singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ in her first-grade class, she has had a taste for music. We spoke with her about her new single ‘Fun And Games’, future plans and remaining motivated.

Why did you enter the music industry?

When I chose to enter the music industry, it felt very natural. Music has always been a part of my life. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that writing a song and singing is a unique skill. I can make a living off of my passion and I think when I realised this I chose to enter the industry as a singer/songwriter.

Can you tell us about your new single ‘Fun And Games’?

‘Fun And Games’ is a song I wrote about a delusional relationship. My friends were all telling me not to out with the guy, but I kept on telling them we were only hanging out and it was nothing serious. Of course, I ended up developing feelings and getting hurt. The single is a sort of sad self-reflection.

What was the writing and recording process like?

I wrote the song after learning how to play Alexander 23’s song ‘IDK You Yet’ on the guitar. His simple playing and emotional lyrics inspired me. The lyrics came to me late at night and I remember whispering the first draft of the song into my phone. I recorded the song in my bedroom with my Rhode mic and my acoustic guitar.

Does ‘Fun And Games’ have any significant meaning for you?

‘Fun And Games’ definitely has a significant meaning for me because it is one of the most vulnerable songs I have written.

What do you hope people will take from the single?

I hope people can relate to the single and they take away my message of how everyone who comes into our life affects us. Pretending that isn’t so is silly.

Which is more challenging for you – melody or lyrics?

For this song, the melody was the most challenging because I didn’t want it to sound monotone. I struggled a bit with the melody at first, especially the chorus, but I believe I eventually found my way.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

I keep myself motivated by releasing and sharing my music on social media. Without my fans, friends and family I wouldn’t be nearly as motivated to create and put out content.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as indie singer/songwriter chic with a touch of pop and sprinkle of soul.

What do you think is the best way to discover new music?

I think blogs like yourself is the best place to discover new music!

What does the rest of 2020 hold for Svea Lyon?

I release a single on June 19th. The song is definitely outside my comfort zone and shows a side of me that I don’t think my fans have ever seen.
