One of the biggest rivalries in international rugby has it’s latest installment at Principality Stadium on Saturday as Wales look to avoid a consecutive wooden spoons in the Six Nations. In contrast, England will have hopes of lifting the title but are reliant on France crumbling against Scotland at the Stade de France later Saturday evening.

Having been defeated 35-29 by Scotland last timeout, Wales’ losing run has now stretched to 16 Test defeats, and they have not won in Cardiff since February 2022. However, after the arrival of interim head coach Matt Sherratt, there has been some improvement to the international side, albeit with two defeats. They led Ireland 13-10 at halftime, and after a poor 60 minutes at Murrayfield, Wales showed heart to fight back and left many with the thought of what if?
If they are to fall to another defeat tomorrow, Wales will become the first Tier one team in the professional era to lose 17 Test matches in a row. They haven’t tasted a Test match win since the 2023 Rugby World Cup against Georgia in Nantes, but the last time England played at the Principality Stadium, it finished 20-9 in favour of Wales.
Captain Jac Morgan spoke at Wales’ Captain’s Run at Principality Stadium: “It’s a big game.
“The last one of the tournament. It’s nice to be back home, especially in Cardiff.
“We’re hopeful to win tomorrow for us as a squad, for the supporters and everyone and all the coaches who’s worked hard over the last few weeks. So yeah, we’re hopeful of a win tomorrow but we know it’s going to be a tough challenge against England. They’re a great team, so let’s see how it goes.”
The Wales skipper has been one of the standout performances so far in the Six Nations; he has made the most tackles (73) of any player in the tournament, and he’s gained the most metres in contact of any player (89). The 25-year-old is only 12 more tackles away from setting a new Welsh record in a single Six Nations campaign, surpassing Justin Tipuric’s 84 in 2017.
After Saturday, the next stop for the Wales captain could be a British and Irish Lions of Australia, but tomorrow afternoon, he’ll have another battle when he goes head-to-head with more Lions contenders. Opposite him will be the Curry brothers, Tom and Ben, and Saracens Ben Earl, who are all open-sides and have the hopes of touring down under in the summer.
“England, they’re very physical. It’s going to be an arm wrestle. It’s going to be a tough game against them,” added Morgan.
“They kick the ball a lot so we know how difficult that’s going to be and you know with the back row, we know how much they’re going to compete hard around that breakdown. So it’s going to be a tough old challenge and a bit of an arm wrestle. So whenever we get that opportunity, we’re going to have to try and take them.”
