It was a quiet January transfer window for the most part, despite £301 million being spent across 34 new faces.
This made it the second highest-spending January window of all time, and was up significantly on the meagre £70 million spent last season as clubs continued to recover from the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newcastle were by far the busiest side in the window, shelling out £92 million on a total of five new faces, including the major coup of Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes.
Aston Villa too were active, adding Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne to Steven Gerrard’s cause.
Meanwhile, a mammoth seven clubs in the top flight didn’t add a single player.
