8 things you didn’t know about Sam Underhill
Here are seven things you might not know about the popular Bath and England flanker.
1. Birthplace
Underhill was born in Dayton, Ohio, in USA as his father Greg was stationed there with the RAF but the family moved to Gloucester when he was about 10-years-old.
2. Picked out for stardom
Underhill’s performances for school and club, including a man of the match performance in a Daily Mail Cup quarter-final, saw him develop into the England setup and World Cup winner Richard Hill visited him at Sir Thomas Rich’s School on a few occasions.
3. Apprenticeship
He worked as a painter/decorator for his Granddad, Brain. He said: “I used to help him out during the summers when I was at school and as a student. As long as it’s unskilled I’m all right, but he didn’t pay very well – I certainly wasn’t on union rates!”
