Emerging singer-songwriter Alana Sukul is back with a brand new single, ‘Be Friends’, her second release of 2021 and the follow up to ‘Attention’, Sukul’s sophomore single, released at the start of the year.
Born in South West London with Caribbean roots, Alana Sukul grew up with a wide range of influences that continue to inform her musical sound and style. Although she is often perceived as a soulful R&B artist, she refuses to be identified as fitting into any single genre and instead experimenting with a variety of sounds and styles such as her current favourite, R&B-tinged funk-pop.
For ‘Be Friends’ Sukul fully leans into her penchant for syncopated pop beats, displaying her luxurious, professionally trained vocals over whimsical acoustic guitar melodies and a buoyant bassline. Candid and emotionally vulnerable, ‘Be Friends’ sees Alana Sukul’s songwriting take on an even more personal touch, seeing the young, 18-year-old artist open up about the grief of losing a close friendship whilst remaining respectful to their personal wants and boundaries.
Speaking on the new single, Alana Sukul explains:
“Friendship breakups can sometimes hurt a lot worse than your typical romantic breakup, I hope this song will help listeners to grieve over the loss by dancing it out.”
Keep up with Alana
