Sheffield Wednesday’s season has been incredibly disappointing thus far.
The Owls have won just one of their previous 11 league matches, and it seems as though their hopes of a playoff spot are all but over.
It’s frustrating because the Yorkshire club have the players to be top-six contenders.
The likes of Fernando Forestieri, Barry Bannan, Tom Lees and Steven Fletcher were all part of Carlos Carvalhal’s side when the Owls made the playoffs back in 2016/17, and under Steve Bruce it looked as though they were going to rediscover that form, losing just three in 18 under the current Newcastle gaffer.

Bruce may have left in the summer, but some new players came in, including Massimo Luongo.
The former QPR man was once on the longlist for the Ballon d’Or, but he’s not shown any of that form since joining the Yorkshire club.
Luongo is performing worse than he was last term in a number of key stats.
Last term the Australian made 3.1 tackles per game, making him the second-most proficient tackler in the division just behind Jack Colback.
However, this term he’s averaging almost half that.
It’s a similar story when it comes to interceptions, he’s averaging one less interception per game than he was last term, and on top of that he’s not made a single block.
Going forward he hasn’t been the same force either, averaging 0.4 fewer key passes per game.
Luongo has the talent to be one of the better defensive midfielders in this division, but unfortunately for Sheffield Wednesday, his form has dropped off this campaign.
Considering Wednesday’s form they need players to stand up and be counted. However, the fact of the matter is that Luongo has been letting his manager down with poor performances over a period of time.
