Newcastle’s on-loan defender Danny Rose has said that former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will “eventually” end up managing Manchester United.
Pochettino is currently without a club having being sacked by Spurs in November, following a downturn in form after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June.
The Argentinian recently took up a broadcasting role with LaLiga TV while on gardening leave, during which time clubs wishing to appoint him would have had to pay a compensation fee to Tottenham.
However, Pochettino’s gardening leave came to an end on Monday and he is now free to pursue the next step of his career, but he has been reluctant to reveal much about his plans.
Speaking to The Lockdown Tactics, Rose – who is on loan at Newcastle from Spurs – backed his former coach to join a top club and said Old Trafford would be in his sights soon enough.
“Without a doubt, without a doubt,” Rose said when asked if Pochettino could return to one of Europe’s giants.
“[That intensity] they all got it from [Marcelo] Bielsa. I know Poch, he idolises Bielsa. They all got that work ethic from him.”
Pressed on where he thinks Pochettino will manage in the future, Rose added: “Eventually United.”
Pochettino’s last game in charge of Tottenham was a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United in the Premier League and he has since been linked with moving to Newcastle and taking Steve Bruce’s job if the Magpies are taken over by a wealthy, Saudi-backed consortium.
The Argentine has also revealed that his “dream” is to return to Spurs and “finish the work we didn’t finish”.
As well as reaching the Champions League final, Tottenham got to a League Cup final, an FA Cup semi-final and were close to winning the Premier League under Pochettino.
