The 37-year-old, who played in all five of England’s Six Nations matches this year and earned his 100th cap in the 23-22 win over Ireland on 9 March, appears poised to conclude his professional journey in France, potentially with Bayonne.
Care, a target for Bayonne where Manu Tuilagi is also headed alongside Northampton’s Alex Moon, is now at the centre of a transfer tussle.
Meanwhile, reports from the French outlet, L’Indépendant, suggest that Care is among the quartet of scrum-halves on Perpignan’s radar as they gear up for recruitment ahead of the next season.
Perpignan, currently positioned 11th in the Top 14 standings, have been actively pursuing talent, having narrowly missed out on securing Tuilagi’s services to Bayonne.
Now, their sights seem to be set on another seasoned England campaigner in Care.
“Re-imagination” – England handed easy pool for 2027 Rugby World Cup
The new format will feature six pools of four teams, with a round of 16 added prior to the quarter-finals.
This will enable the tournament window to be reduced from seven to six weeks, while promoting a rhythm that builds momentum across the pool phase and respects the same minimum number of rest days between matches as at France 2023.
