Gilmour’s Chelsea stint
The 2019/20 campaign of course proved Billy Gilmour’s breakout season.
The young midfielder was just one of a host of academy stars to have been handed the opportunity to impress by Frank Lampard.
And Gilmour went on to grasp his chance with both hands, putting on some starring displays vs the likes of Liverpool and Everton.
However, the Scot suffered an injury late last season, which subsequently saw him miss both Chelsea’s run-in, and opening to the new campaign.
Gilmour, though, has since returned to fitness, and is slowly being reintegrated into the Blues’ first-team setup.
The midfielder has now featured six times for Chelsea’s senior side this term, with his latest appearance having seen the starlet impress in a midfield pairing with Mason Mount vs Luton.
Gilmour staying put
Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, though, the Scot hasn’t been afforded a single minute of action.
And though the German hinted that Gilmour, nor anyone else for that matter, would be leaving the club this month, talk of a Chelsea exit has persisted.
Both West Ham and Burnley were among the clubs linked with a move for the 19-year-old of late.
On deadline day, though, word has been forthcoming that the Scotsman is set to stay put this month.
Crucially, it is added that Gilmour will be handed chances and game time under his new boss, which is no doubt news that will please the Chelsea faithful:
Also told Gilmour will get chances and game time from Thomas Tuchel, who has been impressed by him in training.
