Chelsea have reportedly had a bid accepted for goalkeeping target Edouard Mendy after the player took action to force through a move.
The Blues have strengthened in multiple areas of their squad in the summer window.
Their forward ranks have been boosted immeasurably with the superstar signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. While Kai Havertz has been brought in to pull the strings in midfield.
Several defenders have also been acquired, leaving just the goalkeeping department thus far unchanged.
However, with under-fire stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga facing an uncertain future amid persistently shaky displays, the goalkeeping position now appears set to be addressed.
Multiple names have been touted as candidates to assume the gloves, but the latest reports suggested Chelsea were zeroing in on Rennes goalkeeper Mendy.
Indeed, respected jouralist Fabrizio Romano recently tweeted that The Blues’ latest bid had been ‘accepted’. Furthermore personal terms were reportedly agreed ‘days ago’, with the deal set for completion in the coming days.
The new bid from Chelsea for Edouard Mendy has been accepted by Rennes: here we go! Deal to be completed on next days, the goalkeeper is ready to fly to London and he’ll have medicals soon. Personal terms agreed days ago. Lampard will have his new GK. @DiMarzio #CFC #Chelsea https://t.co/iPXVcUm2ij

Mendy action proves pivotal?
The prospective deal had threatened to drag on, though action from the player has seemingly player a part in hastening his exit.
According to The Mirror, Mendy held ‘crisis talks’ with Rennes, ‘demanding’ to be allowed to leave.
The article notes that he and his adviser left the club’s training ground on Friday morning, with it then apparently clear his future would lay away from the club.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have turned down the opportunity to bring a pair of Inter Milan stars to Stamford Bridge as part of a proposed swap deal that would see a midfield ace move to Italy.
The Guardian report that Inter recently approached Chelsea regarding bringing N’Golo Kante to Serie A, but Chelsea were not receptive to sanctioning his exit.
With funds tight at Antonio Conte’s side, swap deals were proposed, firstly including ex-Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen.
