Bath Rugby lock Dave Attwood will retire from professional rugby at the end of the 2022/23 season.
The 36-year-old has had a fantastic 18-year career which has seen him amass over 350 senior appearances, the majority of which have been in Blue, Black and White.
Post-retirement, Attwood is planning to swim the English Channel for Aspire because, as he puts it, ‘it’s important to get out of our comfort zone’!
“I’m no stranger to putting my face in uncomfortable places… but this is usually between the sweaty backsides of some front row forwards! The chilly waters of the English Channel will be an entirely new uncomfortable experience.
“I will be swimming across the English Channel (approximately 22 Miles) in a relay with a couple of friends. This will entail hour long bouts of swimming in the frigid waters until we reach the other side wearing nothing but speedos and a pair of goggles.
“We will be doing this to help raise money for Aspire and all the amazing things that they do in order to support the lives of people with spinal cord injuries.”

Dave Attwood’s England career fell apart after Owen Farrell beef turned nasty

“We never really addressed it after that. That was where it started and it was like a drunken little bit of argy that went too far. He is an incredibly competitive athlete and he is also very f**kin’ good, he has got high standards. He is a very competitive athlete and in order to be that good, you have to flirt on the wrong side of competitive.
“So whenever we play each other there is always some element in the game where one of us is running at the other one or we are trying to bang each other. There always seems to be an element of that to it. I am sure he is like, I don’t even know that Dave is playing.”
