Earlier this month (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/what-has-2021-got-in-store-for-us.html) we asked you for your hopes and dreams of what 2021 might bring us on the Floyd front. We’ve had a lot of interesting emails – some serious, some not-so serious – with suggestions ranging from entirely possible to pie-in-the-sky “wish list” things which many would love to see, but most are realistic enough to know would never happen! Read on to find out what a selection of BD visitors suggested, and feel free to send in your own thoughts!
Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, a limited release of the album in translucent blue, heavyweight vinyl as a 2LP set, is coming on June 7th, 2019 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07QJ5WRF1/braindamage-21). It echoes the original limited blue vinyl release by Columbia Records in 1994. It will be joining the other albums released by the band’s new label – Pink Floyd Records – and will bear catalogue number PFRLP 31. Featuring the 2014 master by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and the late Doug Sax of the Mastering Lab, California, it comes as a double LP (as did the 2014 black vinyl release) to ensure all the songs are presented in full. The original 1994 single vinyl release required the songs to be edited to fit. As expected, the packaging is of high quality again; the records are housed in a gatefold sleeve with four different images of specially-created heads, and two full-colour lyric/image inner bags. On its original release, the album debuted at number 1 in the UK, US, Australian and New Zealand album charts, reaching the top spot in six other countries, and to date has sold over 12 million copies. At the time, David Gilmour said: The three of us went into Britannia Row Studios, and improvised for two weeks. Playing together and starting from scratch was interesting and exciting, it kick-started the album and the process was very good, it was collaborative and felt more cohesive. Just announced is a further date on the US leg of David Gilmour’s upcoming tour – David and his band will be performing at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California, on Friday, October 25th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-25th-intuit-dome-inglewood-los-angeles-c.html). This latest addition to David’s 2024 Luck and Strange live shows is this show in a venue that is undergoing the final stages of its construction, and it sounds a most interesting building. The architect, AECOM, notes that the “Intuit Dome will be naturally ventilated, fully electric through batteries and solar power with enough on-site energy storage to power a basketball game or concert, and have no net new greenhouse gas emissions.” To qualify for the pre-sale, which starts on June 12th at 10am local time, you need to sign up at DavidGilmour.com (https://www.davidgilmour.com/uspresale) beforehand to get the pre-sale code. There’s also a venue pre-sale which begins on June 13th at 10am local time. Tickets will then go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday, June 14th, through this link at Ticketmaster (https://www.ticketmaster.com/david-gilmour-tickets/artist/769001).
