Beneath The Surface: The Jerichos

Welcome welcome and happy Friday all! Todays Beneath The Surface feature is served to you on the release day of our next artist. It gives me great pleasure to welcome to the blog, The Jerichos and also to congratulate on the release of ‘Even If You Are The Cactus’.

We have a lovely little chat below so let’s get crack a lacking!

What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?

When I was young I remember listening to the album Don’t Believe The Truth by Oasis. This was the first album I owned and the first album that I fell in love with. From then I started to become passionate about music and started taking a proper interest in that world.

In terms of playing and creating music. It was listening to Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden which inspired me to start learning guitar.

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?

The music I am currently making is a mixture of 70s disco, psych pop with my own little spin. I like to try new things and keep things fresh. I started playing around with synths properly over the last year which has driven the inspiration behind a lot of  my new music.

What does your creative process look like?

For me usually the melody will come to me first then I will develop the song from there.

Ideas tend to happen when I’m doing else like when I’m at work or trying to sleep or even in the shower lol. Sometimes it might be a certain instrument I will be playing that I haven’t played before or in a while that will get me inspired.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)

At the moment I would love to collaborate with Kevin Parker from Tame Impala I think that would be pretty amazing and they are one of my favourite bands atm.

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?

Thanks for listening to my music really appreciate having people support me. Love you all!

What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?

When I have writers block, something I have found useful in the past  is to do something completely different to take me out of my comfort zone. Something like playing a new instrument or going to a different place or working with someone new.

What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?

So over the next few months I have quite a lot of music coming out over the summer, then hopefully an EP towards the end of the year. I want to start collaborating more with people and writing different style songs.
