Welcome, welcome one and all to this Fridays edition of Beneath The Surface. Today I am joined by the wonderful New York based girl, boy duo Dady on the release of their brand new single ‘Dark Mode’. Grab a seat and lets get down to business… oh and I’ve heard that ‘Dark Mode’ makes for great interview reading music
What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?
We both grew up loving emo music, going to shows at our local rec center, and listening to acts like Brand New and The Early November. That era of music was a but of a musical awakening for us and in many ways inspired us to make it ourselves.
How would you describe the music you are currently creating?
We started out making pretty produced alt-pop (which I’d venture to say is still our touchstone), but with Dark Mode we definitely started to explore a warmer, more organic sound. Chalk it up to turning 30 or all the Phoebe Bridgers we listened to over the course of the pandemic, but we’re happy take our foot off the gas for a bit.
What does your creative process look like?
Sometimes we’ll write to a track that Jesse produces or start by Rachel jamming on keys (patiently) waiting for Jesse to like something.
Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
The ultimate dream would have been to collaborate with SOPHIE. She was limitless. Rest in peace.
What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
Hi!
What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?
Take a walk. When you’re feeling blocked it always helps to step away from the work and return to it with fresh ears.
What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?
We’re going to focus on just writing and releasing more work regularly. We tend to take our time with this project and we’re stoked to put more work out soon.
