Atlético Madrid remain firm amid Manchester United interest in Kieran Trippier

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are in the wake of a successful domestic campaign in the 2020-21 season, which saw them out-pace both Real Madrid and Barcelona to the league title.

It was just the second La Liga trophy for Los Colchoneros in the last 25-years, and with the club eager to keep as many key assets from Diego Simeone’s title-winning side at the Wanda Metropolitano as possible, the club continues to remain firm in their stance that England international Kieran Trippier is not actively for sale.

Premier League giants Manchester United have long been interested in the former Tottenham and Burnley right-back, who has elevated his career further after his move to the Spanish capital in 2019. Just last month it was reported that Trippier had been house hunting in the Manchester area with interest from the Red Devils heating up, but Atléti prefers to keep as much of their team intact if they are to have a chance at title retention.

Simeone has already gone on record to state his desire – and the importance – of keeping continuity in a team that is fully settled at the club. After what was labeled as a transition year in 2019 that saw squad turnover, the current options from Simeone’s title-winning side remain key to the former Argentine international, who is adamant about avoiding a repeat of two seasons ago.

However, Atléti could be forced to part ways with Trippier, with the England man rumored to be pushing for a return to the Premier League. While the club aims to retain his services and keep him as a vital cog in the wheel next term, they also understand that they may not be able to hold on to the Bury-native, with Manchester United having already lodged a reported initial bid of around 18-million pounds to the La Liga holders.
