Mikel Arteta says Arsenal could build trust and create a sense of unity between the club and supporters should they win the FA Cup on Saturday.
The Gunners beat Manchester City 2-0 to book their place in the final, their fourth in just seven years.
They take on Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Wembley, who dismissed of Manchester United in the last four.
Both managers are looking to secure their first trophy as a head coach, but Arteta is focusing on what success could do for the club rather than his own reputation.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It generates the trust when you’re winning titles. It generates moments when, together, you go through good emotions.
“It brings everybody together, you have [good] memories. There’s a lot of things about winning and winning a trophy that is so positive for any group. When you are in a process, that makes it even more important.
“We have a great opportunity tomorrow, so let’s go for it.”
Fans ‘deserve’ FA Cup win
Arteta took charge of Arsenal in December after Unai Emery was relieved of his duties. He has won 15 of 27 games in all competitions since, but could only finish eighth in the Premier League.
However, there has been a clear improvement in performances under the Spaniard. And he says finishing the year with some silverware would be just reward for his team’s efforts.
He is also keen to reward the fans with a trophy after sticking by them through some disappointing spells.
“It would be absolutely great. We’ve worked so hard since I joined here to bring this club back to winning titles, so if we can achieve that I would be delighted”, he added.
“Not for myself, for the players and for the club. They’ve been through some very difficult moments in the last few seasons.
“And as well for our fans because they really deserve to be given some joy and nice moments.”
