Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that the Gunners will be the side best equipped to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
The Reds and Pep Guardiola’s side were far and away the two best teams in the top flight last season, finishing on 98 and 97 points with nearest challengers Chelsea 25 points behind after 38 games.
Speaking to beIN Sports USA, Wenger said that his former side will be the top-six side to get closest to Liverpool and City this year.
“Maybe the team who has the potential is Arsenal who could be the closest,” the 69-year-old said. “Chelsea looks a bit young; not enough mature up front, not enough mature at the back.
“Manchester United hasn’t found certainty where you could say today they can fight for the championship. They look quite comfortable with two in front. Man City has a huge technical level where they can always create chances.
“Liverpool looks very strong at the back and up front and they have a midfield who knows their job; maybe less creative than Man City. So they look a little bit in front of all the others.”
The Premier League returns next weekend with City travelling to Norwich, Liverpool hosting Newcastle and Arsenal playing Watford.
